This book was a wild ride. I don't think it was the strongest book in the series. I still think The Butcher's Masquerade holds that title, for me, at least. So much happened in this book with lore and character story progression that made it a great part of the overall story but it didn't really feel like there was that much danger in it. The floor itself was "on rails" and it kind of felt like the characters were as well.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a fun time and the ending was insane as usual. I have no clue where the story is going to from here considering there are 2 books left and still a lot of floors to get through.
Ready for book 9 now!
This trilogy was good. I don't think it was near as good as Farseer, but I enjoyed it. it took me a bit to get into it as the first book was so different from Farseer and the different POVs threw me off. The story got progressively better as it went and characters that I hated I began to love and vice versa.
Robin Hobb is a master of layered characters. I found Kennit fascinating up until he did the irredeemable act in this book. I was not expecting that and it really soured his character completely for me.
Overall, I give the trilogy as a whole 4 stars. This book independently I give 5 stars.
I really enjoyed this book. More than Ship of Magic. The characters grew as the story progressed. Some that I really liked in the first book or felt sympathy for I don't like at all now and others that I didn't care for I really want to succeed now. I still don't understand the serpents and feel like any chapter of them is just bogging down the story.
My only complaint about this trilogy so far is that it is so long. Really feels like you could lose 200-300 pages to tighten things up a bit and it wouldn't dramatically change things.
I enjoyed that way more than I expected. Made me cry at the end. I don't even know what to say. It was a great story with a remarkable ending. I loved the first book. The second book was great and I adored this one.
I am now fully into the Cosmere and can't wait to read more and get fully immersed in this universe. I am now all in on Brandon Sanderson.
Took me a while to get into this book for some reason. I think it was because I was hot off the ending of The Farseer Trilogy and this book was so different. Completely different characters, different setting, and about pirates, not Fitz and the Fool. Once I got into it though I enjoyed it.
I am still getting used to multi-POV books. Each chapter in this is told from a different characters perspective (and even some splits in the chapters from other characters POV). There were some characters and parts of the story that didn't seem to make sense or fit in but I trust that it will be revealed in books 2 and 3.
Didn't really care about the main character for the first half of the book. Once she finally had to go through some struggle I started to like her a bit more. There are other characters that I really do not like but I see that they are going to be important later in the story.
The main villain I am torn on. This book doesn't really give any motivation for why he is the villain but I have heard that it is fully fleshed out later and that he becomes one of the most well-written characters in the entire Elderlings series. I hope that is true.
It took me a while to get into this book. I don't know why. It really is everything I love in a fantasy book. I did finally get into it and wow what a ride it was. Robert Jordan is definitely great at world building. The characters were all very well written; full of doubt in themselves and of their path but they persisted on.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and am eager to get on with the rest of the series now. I have heard that it starts to lag quite a bit midway through but picks back up around book 10 or so.
This definitely was a different book from the first. It was more of a political intrigue where the first was a heist adventure. This book builds well on the first and introduces more lore. We get to see characters grow and learn what their roles are.
I enjoyed this quite a bit. 4 stars.
The ending was a nice twist. Looking forward to book three.
This book was insane! That ending! Robin Hobb has really done something amazing. I love how she writes. This book is 100% character driven and I love how she writes all of her characters. You care about even the minor characters that don't really fit into the story. She is also good at hiding little twists and turns where you don't expect.
I can't wait to read Assassin's Quest now!
Whoa! I am so glad I didn't give up on the Red Rising Saga after Red Rising. I was not the biggest fan of Red Rising but people kept telling me to stick with it and that I would be rewarded with the rest of the series. They weren't kidding. Golden Son was amazing. I definitely give it 5 stars. The story was fast paced and full of action. The characters had actual arcs and grew from them. Did not see that twist ending coming at all.
I can't wait to start Morning Star now.
Stupid Carter! :) What a wonderful book and conclusion to the Green Creek series. I loved Carter in the other books and it was such a pleasure having this book from his perspective. His journey to become who he was meant to be was fantastic. I loved every moment of it.
I have become a big fan of TJ Klune and look forward to reading more of his stuff.
This series has me gripped! I am so in love with these characters. I love that each book is from a different characters perspective. TJ Klune has a very lyrical way of writing that I have completely fallen for. I am so sad that there is only one book left. I don't want this series to end. I need to read the short stories as well. I need more of the Bennet Pack!
6/5 stars for me. Can't wait to start Brothersong!
Oh man, where to start. This book was great. I hadn't read anything by Andy Weir previously so wasn't sure what to expect other than everyone hypes this book up. It is definitely worth the hype. I wasn't expecting all the humor. There were definitely parts that I cried over as well. I like the way the story unfolds with the mission and the flashbacks. I won't spoil anything with what happens in the story but there were twists that I wasn't expecting both good and shocking. Definitely give this one a shot.
"Fist my bump!" IYKYK. :)
I did the audiobook for this and Ray Porter was great as the narrator! Highly recommend!
10/5 starts on this one.
Didn't love it but didn't hate it. Plot was thin. Most of the characters are completely unlikeable despite their intentions. The first 3/4 of the book really made no sense until the exposition in the last 1/4 of it. The ending was ok.
I will eventually read the rest of the books since I mistakenly bought the whole series as a single book. I have heard it gets better after the first book.
Has been a few years since I have read this trilogy but I really enjoyed them back in the day. The main character is really likeable as is the rest of the cast. It was nice reading some gay supernatural fiction that wasn't trauma based.
One of my all time favorite books! The characters are great, the humor is off the charts, and the beta male vibes are very beta. :)
Easily one of the best and funniest books I have ever read! I can't count the number of times I have read this book and I still laugh just as hard as the first time!
I read this book as a teenager before the original mini-series came out. I was obsessed with Stephen King back in the day and had devoured all of his books. The Stand was one of my favorites. The characters are all very well written and you get emotionally invested in them. The villain is a mystery through most of the story and it all culminates in an epic battle.
I initially read the unabridged version which was over 1000 pages long. If I remember, it took me about a week to read it. I couldn't put it down. Still to this day it is one of my favorites.
