I'd have liked this a lot more as a teenager but as an adult it was alright. I'm just not big on Pirates anymore. Good writing, enjoyed the characters. 3 ⭐.

The writing was fine but I just wasn't drawn in to it. 3.5 ⭐

The first chapter was absolutely brilliant. Easily six stars. The rest of the book felt almost like it was written by another person. It wasn't bad, far from it, but it just felt... different from the first chapter. Alternate time periods, so maybe that explains it. I devoured this book, but about halfway it slowly got harder to finish. I'm glad I read it, finally. I've had this on my tbr, at least a couple years, I think. It was well written, great characters, and a very important book about women and the strength they have to survive. 3.5 ⭐ rounded up. I enjoyed it.

Everyone else loved it but I was so thoroughly BORED. The writing was beautiful and yet it's just not for me. I struggled and gave up at fifty percent. I'm sorry y'all. I just can't. 3 ⭐

I liked the writing, and I get that this is supposed to be a dark romance..the whole point is being made uncomfortable, but I just don't care for rape books where the male interest isn't proclaimed as the villain but as the hero.

A good story of legends around selkies and a kinda murder mystery flung in. I enjoyed it. 3.5 ⭐.

I'm not sure why I didn't like this? Perhaps because it altered between different people instead of simply sticking with the first narrative? I'm unsure. The writing was good, but it felt slow and I didn't feel connected with the story at all. 3 ⭐

A good Newberry featuring raccoons as pets. Absolutely loved, though a touch slow in the middle. 4.5 ⭐

Started out strong but I grew to despise the MFC because can you not be more stupidly annoying?! 3.5 ⭐

Didn't realize that this was in reference to another series, and it dropped hints about what happened there throughout the book. This was also a wine mystery and honestly, I don't know shit about wine, however the mystery itself wasn't bad at all. I guessed accurately who the killer was halfway through the book, but it has a satisfying resolution. I didn't really connect with the characters, but the writing was good and I did like the cats in the book. 3.5 ⭐

This was a good fantasy, lots of action sequences and plenty of characters to like, however the writing style wasn't for me. I still enjoyed the story but I don't know that I'll continue the series. Depends on my mood. This reads like a strange cross between the Eye of the World and the Lord of the Rings. 3.5 ⭐

I cannot stand Regan. Also is meh. I managed two chapters, about fifty pages, and dnf'd because I was so bored. Another reviewer said this never picks up and I am done. I'm so disappointed, this is another I was highly anticipating but overall, I think this just wasn't for me. I'm sorry for those who enjoyed it, but for me, I'm going to have to pass. 2 ⭐

This book is one of those that slowly creeps. It has spots you're invested in and it has chunks that you could not care less about. I was intrigued by this slow build vampire historical story, but overall I'm just going to admit I'm very selective in what vampire books I like. A Dowry of Blood was so much better imo. Even so this was good writing and I can tell this was a labor of love for the author. The action takes a bit in picking up, but it's worth reading.

I wanted to like this but Effy was super annoying and whiny plus “she's so pretty and doesn't know it” trope which I can't stand. The magic was interesting but not enough to stick with it. Good writing but the story itself yawn. 2 ⭐.

This is my fifth reread. Every few years of read this book again and fall in love with Ponyboy and all the rest. I adore this book. 5 ⭐.

I gave it my best and forced myself to get through this book. This was absolutely agonizing and I am hugely disappointed. It was an anticipated read and it turned into one of the slowest, boring books I've read in a long time. 2 ⭐.
