While the writing is superb, the first short story was about child abuse/sexual assault and I just can't get into it right now. I can definitely see why it's so popular, the writing draws you in, but do keep in mind your mental health and the trigger warnings that go along with this short story collection.
This was flawless. While I love Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, this was not that. It was darker, edgier, anxious and grim. Though it was short it was intense and I was unsatisfied at the open ending but it was absolutely a breathless read. I imagine eventually the birds all starved and died while humans survived. As we always seem to do. This is one of my favorite Daphne du Maurier stories. 5 ⭐
I liked the writing and this book was very cute and whimsical. Strong characters, believable enemies to lovers, and the wolf pups were adorable. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would, it was just the right amount of cute and spicy. My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book that I received from Netgalley. 4 ⭐
Starts off strong, but I'm with most of the others: it's confusing and slightly boring, and I was unsure what to think at the end. I still like Jury and Melrose, and I did like the atmosphere, but the whole mystery itself seemed a bit far fetched. And the way that it was solved was a bit of a desperate means to wrap up the book. Even so, I did enjoy large parts of it, even if I was utterly baffled by most of it. 3.5 ⭐.
It started off strong with heavy vibes of Eragon and Dragonriders of Pern. About halfway I just utterly lost interest. The writing was good, I liked the characters, but I just lost interest. I'll definitely have to check back on this later. I think the main issue for me personally was it felt a little too YA. 4.5 ⭐
