Just for the Summer

Wrote a review for

This was such a nice, easy read. I laughed out loud, and honestly felt bad for both Emma (FMC) and Justin (MMC) at so many moments in their past.

They meet through this crazy Reddit post where they both admit they’re “the person you date before you meet your soulmate.” Basically, everyone they break up with immediately finds “the one.” So they get together and try to break this so called curse, and of course, the second they do, their lives hit them with all kinds of craziness.

Watching them go through all the mess, the feelings, and the family drama, was fun and easy to read. I really enjoyed this one and honestly the whole series has been such a good time.

Allegedly

Wrote a review for

This book had me so fooled. Tiffany D. Jackson, you are a literary genius! I was over here rooting for the FMC Mary like she was my cousin. I closed that book and literally sat there like… WHAT THE HECK did I just read???

Now, out of all the Tiffany D. Jackson books I’ve read, this one sits a little lower on my list, not because it isn’t good, but because I love some of her other stories more.

Allegedly follows Mary, a 16-year-old girl who was convicted of killing a baby… allegedly. The story puts you through her whole nightmare. Going to jail, group homes, and the constant bullying. You can’t help but want her to catch a break.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great book and the plot is brilliant. Just be prepared to have your mind messed with. If you love a thriller with a wild plot twist, go ahead and pick this one up.

Sweet Potato Kisses

Wrote a review for

First, a huge thank you to Nina Stewart for the ARC! Sweet Potato Kisses is a cozy little novella packed with Friendsgiving holiday romance and fall vibes. I actually came across this book on TikTok and immediately said, “Yep, this is EXACTLY what I’ve been searching for!”, Black love, fall vibes and holiday warmth all wrapped together. And Nina Stewart brings it all together so well.

We follow Brandy, Sullivan, and their super close college friend group as they reunite for Thanksgiving. Brandy is going through it after her fiancé of three years, Dante, suddenly calls things off. Then Sullivan pops back into the picture, her old college friend and longtime crush who’s now a famous author, and home for the first time in years. The moment these two see each other again sparks fly. And just when things start feeling right, Dante pops back up wanting a second chance.

This novella moves fast but still gives you that soft, slow burn friends to lovers feel. It’s got classic Hallmark movie romance vibes, small town fall charm, and characters that feel so real. Sweet Potato Kisses gave me exactly the cozy holiday read I’ve been waiting for, and I honestly can’t wait for the sequel.

If you’re looking for a heartfelt, no spice, feel good holiday romance with relatable characters and all the holiday love, this one’s for you.

Dominion

Wrote a review for

If you remember watching Greenleaf, this is that in book form. I couple read this with my husband, and I have to say I enjoyed it. It’s started off rough, and the beginning had me a little confused and unsure if I was following everything, but what I love about couple reading is having our discussion after each chapter.

Dominion follows Pricilla First Lady, and going through it with her husband the pastor. Diamond a high school young lady who is in love with one of Pricilla’s son Emmanuel better known as Wonderboy, who needs to be seriously evaluated.

They say preacher kids are the worst and this book shows you just that, It’s packed with drama, mystery, revenge, secrets and all the messy church business and family drama that keeps you turning pages.

I literally had to let this one marinate for a day, before giving my review, because whew, this book will have you thinking about it long after you close the book.

Zeal is such a beautiful story, and the historical fiction timeline was amazing. The Harrison and Tirzah chapters were so detailed, emotional, and honestly my favorite part of the entire book. I was glued to the pages every time the story went back to them.

The modern day storyline, didn’t grab me in the same way. I kept waiting to connect with those characters the way I connected with the past, but something just didn’t click for me.

The story is a multi generational love story that stretches across 150+ years. You jump between 1865, right after the Civil War, where Harrison, a newly freed Union soldier, goes back to the Mississippi plantation to find the woman he loves, Tirzah.

Then you flip to modern day Harlem, where Ardelia and Oliver are engaged, and he hands her an old family letter that ends up meaning way more than it seems.

Along the way, the book digs into Black history, the legacy of slavery, systemic oppression, the Great Migration, and how trauma and hope get passed down through generations. It’s a lot, but in a really meaningful way.

Overall, still a really strong and powerful read. The historical sections alone were worth the read, and I’m glad I picked this one up.

Caught Up

Wrote a review for

This series just keeps getting better. Caught Up by Liz Tomforde was amazing and might be my favorite out of the series so far. Kai Rhodes is a pro baseball player trying to balance his career and raising his son, Max, when Miller Montgomery, a talented pastry chef, steps in as Max’s nanny for the summer. What starts as a temporary arrangement quickly turns into something much deeper, and watching their romance unfold in the middle of real family life was so nice. From the first few chapters, I knew I was going to like the romance, but what really grabbed my attention and kept me interested was the fact that the story was centered around family. There’s something so special about watching a love story come together in the middle of real relationships, real responsibilities, and all the little moments that make a family feel real.

Having characters from the previous books in the series, be a part of this story, was such a nice touch. Liz Tomforde knows how to write characters who feel real and relatable. This wasn’t just a cute romance, it was warm, emotional, and full of heart.

The Rage of Dragons

This book was absolutely action packed! From the very first page, the action doesn’t stop. Fight scene after fight scene kept me on the edge of my seat (and there were a lot of fight scenes). The African inspired world is fast paced, and I was completely addicted. I both read and listened to the audio, and the narrator did an amazing job bringing the story to life.

Tau, the main character, has such a crazy story. Something happens at the start of the book that sets him on a path of revenge, and following his journey was incredible. Honestly, I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did.

The ending was both satisfying and heartbreaking, and I can’t wait to read book two! If you love action, adventure, and a story that pulls you in from the very first page, this one is definitely worth reading.
