This book was a 3.5 star read for me. It was definitely quirky and captivating. I feel like this book was advertised as a sort of “thriller” but I don't think that's a right description. I also felt like I was easily able to foreshadow how it was going to end, which isn't always a bad thing. I still enjoyed it!
I didn't love this and I didn't hate this. What is frustrating is that I COULD HAVE LOVED THIS. I just felt like there wasn't enough to this book. Things didn't evolve slowly enough and there was a definitive point in which things started to move very fast without me really having a dull appreciation for the first half of the book. What I did like about it is the fae world that is depicted. It's fun, dark, twisted. I just wanted more. More description, more relationship building, more character development. I'm anticipating the second and hoping that it gives me a little of what I missed from the first.
I found this book to be truly delightful for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the writing is beautiful, poetic, and flowing. This book reads like a Greek mythology and is filled with creativity. It is unique and unlike anything else I've read. Circe is a beautiful and nuanced character, and her story is told over a span of centuries. I highly recommend this book.
Wow. THAT ending. This book actually started quite slow for me. I found that I actually liked the setting of the institute of the first book. Once I actually got into this book, I enjoyed it just as much as the first. The four star rating is due to some of the slowness it had in the beginning but overall I'm very excited to read the next in the series!
Dare I say, Words of Radiance was even better than The Way of Kings, and I gave that book five stars. There is so much happening in this book from the beginning to the end and, for this being over one-thousand pages long, I couldn't put it down. I think it's safe to say that this has now become my number one favorite book series. The twist at the end could not have been planned better. I was caught completely unaware. I am very excited to start reading the 3rd book.
Wow. Now this is an EPIC fantasy done right.
I had first been introduced to Brandon Sanderson through The Mistborn series and I can't express enough how much I loved it. But THIS is Mistborn on steroids. From the very beginning, starting with the prologue, you can tell that this book is extremely rich with detail and description. Some people don't like a ton of detail, but I live for it. This first opens with a character named Szeth, which gives you a VERY brief introduction to the magic system in this book. It is then shortly followed by Kaladin's, Shallan's, Dalniar's, and Alodin's with other characters POVs in the interludes between parts. With many books that have changing POVs, there always tends to be at least one that I could care less for, however, that is not the case with The Way of Kings. With every single character, you end up wanting to make it back to their POV to find out what's happening next. I also love that Sanderon gives you extensive back stories of his characters. Reading about Kaladin's childhood gives the reader insight into his personality, his flaws, his view of the world, etc. Which in turn creates a level of relativity and attachment between the reader and the character. I have been told that Sanderson includes back stories of different characters in the next books as well. One more thing that I love about Sanderon's writing style is that he gives you subtle clues in one character's POV that helps the reader to make sense of other character's POV's. The foreshadowing is not done in a way that is obvious or obnoxious, it is executed rather artfully. And on a final note, the twists that are brought in at the end completely knocked me on my ass and there was no way to anticipate what was coming. If you are a lover of fantasy, this book will not disappoint.
The best way to describe my experience of this book is charming. There were parts where I felt like the romantic intimacy progressed a little quickly but all-in-all I enjoy her and Khalid together. This was a very quick read for me and I ended up finishing it within a day and a half. I would have finished in one had I not been working. This book is worth the read, the characters are endearing and I am excited to read the next book.
I loved this book. I haven't read a lot of sci-fi, but this was a really great introduction into the genre.
I thought the concepts were extremely creative and I really enjoyed all of the 80's referencing. It was fun to be able to look up the different songs, movies, and video games to help expand my understanding of the world this was set in. I would be very interested to read more by Ernest Cline.
I only gave the first book 4 stars, BUT the second book did not disappoint me. I loved the element of The Essen Tasch. Something about tournaments involving magic gets me excited and I really enjoyed reading the fight scenes from it. I also felt that character development was a little bit more full here and I enjoyed the new characters that were introduced, especially Allucard Emery. I am very excited to read the 3rd and final installment of this series.
This book is very delightful. I enjoy the magic system in this book and that there is incorporation of elements, as well as blood and bone being separate elements. I think I would have liked if there was a little bit more of in-depth world building, I definitely was able to grasp a firm idea and picture based off of what was given but I've found that I tend to appreciate the details. I will also say that I kind of wish I knew more about the Danes twins by the time the book had finished, their characters really fascinated me and a back story would have been enjoyable. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and am excited to read the rest of the series.
“So early in life, I had learned that if you want something, you had better make some noise.”-Malcolm X
There is a lot to say about The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and not enough room in the world to say it, and yet here I am; at a complete loss for words and in a state of emotional upheaval. This is, by far, the most important book I have ever read and will likely remain one of the most important books in my life. Malcolm X was not a villain. Malcolm X was a deeply passionate and compassionate man who was taken from this world too soon. He was a man who gave everything he ever was, and had, to fight for equal treatment for people of color. This autobiography is worth every amount of time spent reading it.

I liked this book. I didn't LOVE this book. And, I'm pretty sure that this is the first Sarah J Maas book that I have rated under 5 stars. Let me tell you why I didn't love it, not every character needs to be paired off. It's just not necessary. Not every person finds their true love in life. But, alas, that is her style and I love her as an author so I will deal with it. I felt like Chaol's and Yrene's pair was just a little too forced feeling. Not throughout the whole book but closer to the end. What I will say about this book is that outside of all the relationship stuff I really did love the story love and I was especially captivated by Nesryn's story. AND we find out interesting information about the 7th book, Maeve cough cough. Anyways, that wraps up my review but I am so excited for the 7th book so we can find out what happens to Aelin.
I have finished the final installment of the “Mistborn” trilogy and let me just say that I am blown away. This book has everything that a fantasy needs. Lovable characters, a creative plot that hasn't been done before, detailed content, amazing world building. The list goes on. Despite the ending being different than I expected, I cannot say that I am disappointed in the least. Brandon Sanderson did a beautiful job of tying up this series and I can honestly say that I WILL reread this at some point in time. That's how good it is. Take my advice and read the series. You will not be disappointed.
This book is everything I could ever want in a sequel and more. In this book, you are following Vin's development into a young women facing the same insecurities that girls face while growing up. She battles with fear, shame, acceptance, and her place in the world. I took about a month to read the first book, I was dragging my feet (I still gave it 5 stars because those stars were well deserved) but with this book, I went through it in a week and in all honesty, would have probably finished it within a day and a half if I had nothing but time to read. My favorite character so far is Vin's Kandra companion and I'm really hoping you see more of the Kandra in the third installment. Watch out for the cliff hanger at the end. Once you finish this sequel you will run out of the house to get your hands on the third.
Oh. My. God.
I loved this book so much. This book had every element in it to make it a great fantasy novel. When I started this series I thought it would be more geared towards younger ages (middle school) but, not only was I wrong, I was blown away. This is the first Brandon Sanderson book I've read and I was all about it. The one thing I would say about this book is that it starts very slow. It took me a while to get into it but once I did, It did not fall short to impress me. Sanderson takes his time to make sure that his audience has a very firm grasp on the world, the magic, the character's personality etc. These are the best types of books and let me tell you why. Because when everything is said and done and you've finally finished the book, you are attached to the characters. That attachment is what, in my opinion, makes a series memorable. If you are just starting this series, push through the first third of the book and then from there you wont be able to put it down. All I have to say is that I am so excited to start the second book.
This book was simply delightful in every way. I loved the layout of the flash-backs and felt that it added so much to the story. I can't even say that this is a “super-hero” book because at the end you're kind of left questioning if anyone in the story is really a hero at all? Maybe they're all villains? And call this morbid curiosity but I have found that I love books where the main characters are also antagonists. I'm greatly anticipating the next book in the series. This was my first V.E. Schwab book and I was not disappointed. This was a quick read because of how easily captivating it is AND it also served as a great in-between palette cleanser for me (I tend to binge read fantasy novels). I highly recommend this book.
I don't even know what to say. I really loved this book. I love the characters, I love the imagery it creates, I love the story line. I love it. I think I'm still a little shocked to be so impressed with these books because I went into reading them feeling skeptical, but ALAS, they were worth it. I was unable to put both of them down. I would really like to see Leigh Bardugo put out a third installment to this series. I am feeling a little antsy about Kaz and Inej's relationship and would like to see that being developed more. I was just left unfulfilled with them. But all in all, reading these books made me excited to see what else Leigh Bardugo will be writing in the future.
actual rating 3.5
I really did like this book. It was such a go with the flow contemporary mystery. I do enjoy books that are written from multiple perspectives and I actually enjoyed every characters perspective. I think it's a great read for anyone that isn't looking for something too heavy. I look forward to checking out the tv series now that I have finished the book!

I need to start by saying that I loved this book so much. It's so rich with fantasy and I love the Rothfuss world so much. I noticed that some people liked the first book better but I personally like this one the most. I enjoyed reading about Kvothe's time at the university and how he is developing and coming into his own. I think Kvothe is such a likable character and feel so personally invested in him. I think my favorite part was when he was in the fae realm with Felurian. I am hoping that the third book shows more time spent in the fae realm with a lot of rich descriptions and world building. I also want to talk about Meluan Lockless' box she showed Kvothe. I think that the box contains the name of the moon or something related, and the story that was told to him while hunting down the bandits in the forest ties into it (random speculation within my review). I am so anxious to find out what is going on with Denna and him. It seems the tension between them continues to build and we're all wondering, okay when are they actually going to admit to being ridiculously in love with one another? I often times find myself thinking back to what is going on in real time for Kvothe and worry that he will never gain his true power back. And then, thinking on that makes me wonder if Patrick Rothfuss is going to give us more books following the third book that will continue Kvothe's story in present time? I, personally, would love that. I'm totally fan girling over this right now and have to come to accept the fact that I will be left waiting for the third book for some time.
very slight spoilers
What can I say about this book? I gave this a 5 star rating for many reasons and I would obviously recommend it to anyone who is a fan of fantasy. One thing I loved is that Kvothe's story is so in depth that I feel like I personally know him. Not only that, but he is relatable. There were many moments in this book where I felt so anxious and on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happens and knowing something is lurking right around the corner. I love how magic is described in this book because I feel like it gives more of a realistic scientific feel for what magic is, at least so far. One of my favorite parts in this book was where Kvothe and Denna were camping out and saw the Draccus and all of the events that follow right after that. I am very excited to read the second book and I already know that I will soon be anticipating the third book.
Some spoilers:
I loved this book and felt it was a great ending to Feyre and Rhysand's story. There were moments in this book where I yelled out loud, cried, laughed. Even though I loved this book, it was not as good as the second one. A Court of Mist and Fury is pretty much untouchable though, so theres that. My favorite part of this book was hearing about the old monsters. I think one of the things that was disappointing to me was that it seemed like Feyre's time in the spring court went by a little too fast. Also, because she was wrapping up their story, I felt like there was so much going on in this book that it didn't leave a whole lot of time to process it. Regardless, I loved this series so much and I will definitely read it again and again. Sarah J Maas is one of my favorite authors and I am so excited to see what other characters she writes about in this world setting.
