A wise warrior avoids the battle or something along these lines. The book is no literary wonder written simply as a series of bullet points. What makes it amazing is the fact that it was written before 2500 years & it is still relevant to our modern day. The set of rules outlined can be applied by any leader in any field.
PS: of course the financial details associated with the armies can be safely discarded.
Too Science Fictiony; gadget x does so & so, much better than the previous gadget y in so & so. Reads like a slow episode of a good show. Raul always in a pinch describing how difficult it is without being relatable at all with a continuous listing of names & characters with little or no background making for some of the most dull moments of any book I've read in a while.
On the other hand, still have its good moments.
Starting with the negative, I've missed the style of several pilgrimages narrating their respective stories. The rest is positive. And extremely so. The characters feel alive & the internal monologue of each is just on point (e.g. the abraham dilemma). It also have a couple of amazingly done oh-snap moments.
I only discovered this is the first of a series in the last sections and it was a pleasant surprise. The Cantos is an Action packed, John_Keats-based, philosophical heart warming story!!! A couple of quotes for the road:
“Who is hilter? An old earth politician who did some writing.”
“Eventually the madness burned itself out, although the embers will always glow. “
Broadhead journey through fear and uncertainty is certainly worthwhile. A very relatable character with lots of questionable but understandable choices. The books excels in containing minimum internal monologue while still retaining the deep connection with the main antagonist. I must keep on reading the rest of this saga.
This last book is worth grinding through the issues with the previous two. The feels of the last few chapters were too strong making them the best in the series. Also, the addition of Tobias narrative adds a lot to the flow and details of the story. It is just refreshing compared to the teenage Tris narrative.
