Well.... I have mixed feelings on this book. I really had my hopes up, people said Robin writes like Libba Bray and Stephen King (two of my faves) but...unfortunately I did not like the style nor the story really.
Let me explain. First this is how the book goes /_____/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ (those are the ups and downs in this book) not a HUGE fan of feeling like I'm being thrown around. I am also huge on character development and this did not have a lot. It's almost as though the book concentrated on too many people to really dig in, and absorb the characters.
The story line is small town goes crazy after a storm (thats all I can really say without giving away the story). I had to PUSH myself to get through this and unfortunately I was not happy. There were some funny parts and some really sad parts that were good but overall I just could not get myself to like this book no matter how hard I tried.
what...what...what?!? I cant even...... As other people said the second book was even more twisted than the first. I cant give it 5 stars because I am still...the ending.... WHAT?!? Its hard to review this book because I am trying very hard to not give spoilers. Please read this book if you liked the first. Yes parts were slow but it is worth it.
Michelle Hodkin did no disappoint and keep you on your feet the entire series.
Ugh.
Ugh.... This series had such potential. I LOVED the first two books. And honestly loved up to the middle of this book. But towards the middle it gets......annoying. It is SO up and down. Literally one minute your happy the next you want to cry and then RIGHT after that its like you were never sad because something else happened and America just forgets the sad.
I feel the last book was poorly written towards the end and felt....rushed. If you read it you will understand. Especially the last 10 chapters. Because it was rushed I couldn't truly enjoy it. It seems the author almost lost interest or couldn't find anywhere else for the book to go and found the most ‘interesting' way to rush to the end. Sadly this made the ending to the book poor.
Please read the series, it is worth it. The last book just isn't up to par compared to the rest of the series.
So- first this book is amazing. It has a little bit of everything in it including (but no limited to) murder/mystery, romance, psychological thriller, supernatural, and humor. I loved that during the beginning of the book you couldn't tell whether Mara was actually crazy or if there was something else going on. I also loved how the action started right from the beginning no slow start or slow parts really. The only reason this book did not get 5 stars is because some parts were very poorly written and/or hard to follow.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes dark books that don't necessarily have happy endings.
I would NOT recommend this book if you do not plan to read it consistently or want something that is ‘easy to read' and by that I mean something you can skim that will warm your heart.
I love this book. I really do. It took some time to get into it but once I was in... I was in. I couldn't put it down for 4 days and it never lost my attention. I would have loved to give it 5 stars but the fragments....oh the fragments. I understand it was meant to add to the ‘feel' of the book... but its hard to read something that is written like ‘Now. It must be now. All I could think. Now.' Other than that it was truly a phenomenal book with a little bit of romance, love triangle, and aliens (and who doesn't love a good alien story?)
This book was very good on its own, but was nothing compared to the first one but I feel like most sequels are a let down compared to the first one. What I really liked was the time period most of the book took place in, which was the in London 1940's. The pictures were not a disappointment and in the beginning there was almost like a yearbook set up showing you pictures of the characters as well as names and relations/powers. I am very excited for the third book and hope that they story is just as good and compelling as the first book!
Honestly... I was pretty disappointed. People told me this was an awesome book and I would love it and blah blah blah. I couldn't get into it! The time I started to get into it was in the last 70 pages or so... I was surprised I even stuck it out that far. The ages REALLY threw me off and kind of turned me off to this book. They are only 15 and talking about killing and going to clubs like they are 17 or 18. It was also written terribly in my opinion and I just couldn't get over that. I also couldnt get over the twist! Maybe I will try the prequel series to this book but I don't see myself reading any further into the this series.
This book was better than I expected. Although there was a lot of typos it was a great ‘mindless' read for when you want something that isn't intense or hard to think about. I also am a huge zombie and romance fan and this book had both. So its really a great read for when there is nothing else sparking your interest.
Better than the first! So Addicted. I cant say I am team anyone though! I hate Aspen for breaking her heart in The Selection but I hate Maxon for fudging around the tramps like Celeste. Ugh. Maxon or Aspen better do some serious romancing before the 3rd books end so I can at least be happy for America!
OMG OMG OMG. I usually hate uber romances but I totally love this one............... But I cant wait until MAY.. WTF Kiera.... I dont think I'm team anyone anymore. I HATE Aspen for crushing her heart and lets face it...... they wont be able to be together very long....but I hate Maxon for things I cant spoil for you :) BUT GAH. I cannot wait until The One in may.... :-D
I had to read this in high school and was actually excited to read, because not only was it so controversial but people seemed to have very definitive opinions on it. As the class began reading it we all seemed to like it then as the book went on people either hated it or got so uninterested in it they just wouldn't finish it. Personally I loved it. Being a self proclaimed realist I really could identify with Holden's antagonistic outlook on life. I also felt like a lot that happened in the book wasn't meant to just be that.. It was meant to signify something- make you think deeper about life and innocence. I think Holden goes through what everyone once in their lifetime goes through. A reflection, a reflection on how easy life was as a child, how innocent we were and how life as an adult is dreary and full of worry and anger. And I completely agree with him. I really did love this book!
