What a book, at first, the MC was annoying and frustrating, but Peter Newman capsulated a young girl thrust into a horrid situation so perfectly, that it complimented her arc so well.
Wonderful book, such a rich series, cannot wait to read the third and final instalment of this series!
The kid is back!
The conclusion of this brutal, cold, twisted, and deeply disturbing trilogy is utterly beautiful and achingly melancholic.
I am completely enthralled by Jorg and this series. He has become my favourite protagonist of any series I've read.
Mark Lawrence is a phenomenal writer, and I'm so glad I chose to ignore the reviews that dismissed this story because of its “disturbing” content. Doing so led me to one of the most gripping and unforgettable journeys I've read.
This starts of much slower than the first, there is a lot of structure that Gareth needs to build. But it hits a stride by 20% and at 50% it hits a full sprint, edge of your seat, twist and turns, gods, deities, annihilation.
Brilliant book, this series is a treat, have already recommended it to many!
What a BOOK! I had only just recently finished the lies of locke lamora and was craving that same assassin/debauchery feel.
This is the perfect series to scratch that itch.
The characters are great. Once settled in, you really do enjoy their interactions and conversations. The book has a lot of depth, but you aren't bombarded by 50 pages of history. Steven Brust nailed it with Jhereg.
The action is great, to the double and triple crossing. And the imagery is perfect! I am very happy I stumbled upon the suggestion for this series.
Going straight to Yendi!
A squeamish and deeply depressing book. I appreciate what Laurel conveys. Being a father, I would do anything for my daughter, and being in chris' position, I would be just as desperate.
Some parts made my heart fracture, with the sacrifices made for the love of a child.
I did really like the entity, though.
It's not a groundbreaking book by any means but a quick and enjoyable read.
Excellent send off, loved the deep dive into the planes. That's all I can indicate.
I see others complain about this book fitting too much into such a small time frame, but I think it conveys the urgency that the previous 2 books intentionally stalled on.
I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book, it really starts to kick off past that 30% mark, I wish there was more to read, especially in regards to what I referenced up above.
This was such a fun read, it was not nearly as gritty as the first two of the series. I was not on the edge of my seat but it did make some cogs turn in this head of mine. I love how Scott gives us two stories in the one book, it's such a smart way to give some lore and background while keeping up with the current situation at hand.
Now to join the ever lasting queue of people awaiting the release of Scott's next book. Hopefully before I pass I get to finish this series!
Brandon sanderson redeemed himself. But looking deeper into my review for the last book it seems he had a hold on me like something else had a hold on everyone else throughout the series.
I'm gobsmacked at how he made me, the reader, as confused and dumbfounded as the characters in the series. Excellent finish, with a very unexpected but pleasurable ending.
Excellent follow up from lies of locke lamora.
Scott's ability to write so many twists and turns that even you aren't sure what the fuck is going on, but still manage have a vague idea of it all, is fantastic.
This was such a wild ride, the introduction and first part of the book is such a good start to this book, then you get to the second part of the book and shit hits the fan, entering something similar to the show black flag.
I was impressed with all of it, not once (and I assume I never will with Scott's writing) dreading a chapter or waiting for something to happen. It was riveting the whole way through.
I do carry a heavy heart for the loss of many, may the crooked warden guide their souls.
This book is nothing but a shadow to The Final Empire.
________
The well of ascension was such a disappointing read coming off the back of one of the best books I have ever read to date.
Brandon wrote as if all the characters suddenly had the mental capacity of a 7 year old... do not get me started on one particular group of enemies... I cringed every time brandon wrote their interactions.
And brandon, my boy. You cannot say “they are only known to grow to 10 feet” then a few chapters later say “this one was at least 12 feet” I would think after you had written Sazed's part regarding contradictions you would also of seen them in your own book, as there were so many.
Vin and the crew hinting at the idea that she loved Kelsier in the first book? Completely goes against everything built regarding their relationship in the first, which was such a beautiful connection of both needing each other as parent/child.
And talking of Kelsier, what the fuck was with all the hate? I couldn't believe that everyone had a bone to pick with him.
Disappointed and hard to digest. I hope Brandon redeems himself with The Hero of Ages.
Brandon Sanderson is a supurb writer.
I fell in love with the charm of each individual character within the book. At times he wrote in such a way that I felt like I was there, nestled between all of them.
I laughed, I pondered, and I cried. So much emotional variety within the first book I can't imagine what the rest hold for me.
The world building is on an epic scale, and it is still being expanded on to this day.
The first murderbot that was over 100 pages long and damn was it good!!!
He just keeps getting better and better!
