It is an incredible story about vanity and hedonism . Dorian gray represents the truest sense of what it means to indulge when blessed with features society considers outstanding. I truly believe Lord Henry was the seducer in this story, although most people would disagree and say it should be Lord Basil. I think he was the one to truly set Dorian on this irredeemable path. A portrait/ a truly incredible work of art is just that until someone adores it or pays reverence to it, which wouldn't have happened until Lord Henry's praise for the artwork. I honestly think Henry had the most impact on Dorian's life throughout this story and there's so much to learn from their relationship/friendship
I kinda liked Oscar Wilde flexing his knowledge of history in this book multiple times. That was really cool. I understand why so many young people adore this book now. There is so much to learn from it about beauty and vanity . Highly recommend
Frank Herbert presents us with a very different version of Paul 12 years after his ascension. With the death of an estimate 61 billion lives in the known galaxy and the constant friction he had with the other factions especially the guild and the bene gesserit Paul is not the confident skilled fighter he once was. I genuinely think giving himself up to the desert was an honourable way to die
I still feel with his visions chani should've been better protected but I think one of Frank's major message is that this version of Paul understands he cannot control everything despite being made to feel like he was the chosen one or the promised one from the start. I think dune messiah provides a powerful message about the dangers of religious fervour and the eventual consequences that follow the name in which these atrocities are carried out.
I look forward to seeing more of this renewed version of Duncan idaho and how he helps Alia navigate the struggles that will arise with the death of the lisan Al gaib
Well written fast paced beginner to what I hope is a truly impressive fantasy series
Diago took time to capture my attention but I will admit I was invested in the final 3rd of the book
The writing is good and the plot just kept progressing really well, I am excited to see where this story goes from here cos that ending while shockingbwas also a bit confusing
“Then what does it mean? Why? It can't be that life is so senseless and horrible. But if it really has been so horrible and senseless, why must I die and die in agony? There is something wrong! “Maybe I did not live as I ought to have done,”
Its one thing to experience someone close to you pass away in the most painful manner you could ever imagine. I felt like Tolstoy was repeteating some of the thoughts I had about my mother passing a few months ago. Why must one suffer to leave this world?? Why not go cleanly without pain, without agony “ .
He perfectly captures the despair one feels before their final moments and how it basically changes what you feel about the life you've led ... It's a painful tale but so perfectly out together ... His prose truly is majestic
I hope to read Anna karenina and War and peace some day ... Incredible short story that I would never forget
Well that was disappointing
Firstly, I'm going to start by saying how succinct Donna tartt's writing is I absolutely love íhow well she makes you picture everything like you're seeing through rose coloured glasses or a kaleidoscope of you please but that's about the only thing I loved about this book
Now down to the shit I absolutely detest ... I always don't care much for books that have an MC or narrator that is boring ... I can get with Richard being easily manipulated, stupid, downright foolish at times but boring ?? I absolutely cannot handle that mess
The plot in book II straight up dumb it felt like Donna was going for the outrageous , you know the epic fall after the death in the group and I think this is where TSH and if we were villains differ in terms of quality story down to the very end
In the latter the author carefully shows you how the cast falls deeply into that shakespeare's thou this be madness line but with this book it just felt like she was looking for the most unusual things to happen like for example why did Henry have to shoot himself at the end ?? besides him going through all that trouble to not go TO JAIL ... His easy choice to take one for the group just didn't play well with his character for me .. A number of things could've happened in that scene
Furthermore, I know that DA comes with some uncomfortable things with each story but Richard being tempted to SA Camille out of frustration for what at the point I can't even remember ...Jesus christ like was that even unnecessary to progress the plot in anyway ... Very uncomfortable
I feel like if book II were better written I would have no problem giving this 5 stars and praising it as the “modern classic” you all like to call it but know that was bad very BAD and then that ending ... Oh brother
