You can never go wrong with Agatha Christie. Murder mysteries set in a English family estate are my catnip and this was one of the best. Great characterization and classic Christie plot twists made this a definite page turner.
I listened to this on audiobook and honestly thought it would be a 5 star read for the first half of the book. For me I think the book just dragged on too long and the central romance just felt boring and a little forced. Pros of the book were great world building and no flat one note characters.
This book was every thing I love in a mystery novel. Possible murder on a private family island in the middle of an historic storm with a deeply flawed detective investigating the case. The actual murderer wasn't that hard to figure out but the story took several unexpected twists and turns you won't see coming. Very interested to see what's next for Shana after her actions in this book. Would have loved a chapter from her partners pov to see his take on everything that happened on the island.
I listened to the audiobook version. The story over all I give 4⭐️. The narration was okay, not really worth choosing audiobook over paper book. Loved Amina's story as a female pirate and all the found family vibes with her crew. Also really enjoyed learning more about a place and time in history I wasn't familiar with. Definitely inspired to read the authors earlier trilogy now but won't try them on audiobook.
