This book took me 6 years to finish!
Everytime I picked it up I barely got a few pages further, so it almost made me abandon this series completely. I had devoured the first books in the series so I'm glad I'm finally finished with this road block. Hopefully I'll remember enough of the first books to enjoy the last one.
The book had a few parts that I sincerely enjoyed but overall it was sooo boring.
What a whimsical collection of imaginary explorers. The art is truly captivating and the accompanied short stories are spell binding with a flourishing language.
The portrait of Charles Hawkler was what drew my attention, and the collective quality of the book convinced me I wanted it in my collection.
Every page is a wonder, but my favourite adventurer after having completed this book for the first time is for the time being Kululeko Sibindi. Kululeko whose phobias doesn't deter him of seeking out what he loves.
The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong, Vol. 3

This trilogy ruined my sanity!
The first book were pretty decent and pulled on my heartstrings just enough to get me to continue with the next book, but after that this series tore my ♡-strings asunder completely.
I've barely been able to occupy my thought with anything other than these characters the last few days. Any chance I got I picked up my phone to just be able to read a few lines.
It has a lot of ups and downs. Some moments I thought that what I read was problematic and complete trash, while the other moment I loved it and almost couldn't breath because I got so emotional.
If all danmei-novels ruin me like this I'll have to stay far away from the genre to spare my heart.
Wow! All the characters have come a long way, but in this book my heart goes out to Lysandra! She've had such an amazing journey from when she was first introduced and in this book she really got to shine! Especially in her shape shifting scenes and all the miles she's willing to go for her Queen!
Even if my heart went to Lysandra, all the characters in this book took my breath away! Manon, Elide and Lorcan, Aelin and Rowan (and everyone else I'm not mentioning). All of their stories have played out amazingly through these books and Sarah J. Maas have woven such a wonderful adventure for us to follow. I loved that we got to revisit old places and characters that we haven't met in a while. And you can really feel how the saga is steering towards it's end with so many questions getting answers and so many secrets getting revealed! I love this world and all it's magic and wonder! ♡
These five short stories was utterly amazing! The next one continued where the previously left of, so all of it played out smoothlessly. The story as a whole was really good and I loved this version of Celaena! I loved all of the characters! The “heroes” and villains. Every single character had something special about them and together they bound this saga in to a nice little gift. But the biggest gift was Sam. I'm a little bit intoxicated with him!
Amazing backstory that both left me with a couple of characters I'm excited to meet again in the Throne of Glass series but also with a deeper love for this story as a whole.
It seemd kind of fitting that I dreamt of this world and it's characters the whole night after I finished it.
Anyway, this was a very good book. It was easy to read and get in to. The characters where funny and I really liked all the banter. It was however difficult to take some of them seriously. The way they acted in their professions seemed way out of course. But hey, it's a work of fiction and who am I to criticize a well written trope.
I also have a hard time reading stories with love triangles. I hate it when my heart is being torn in different directions and I loved Dorian and Chaol equally. So I'll probably get sad over whoever ends up alone and heart broken. I hope I'll settle for a favourite in the next book. (I did however tend to lean toward Dorian in this book, he seemed more romancey while Chaol was a bit more brotherly. It kept changing all the time though and I just assume the next books will keep on with the heart tossing.)
But hey, let's talk about the fae mythos! I love, love, loved it! The simple mention of faries in the beginning, the history of Elena and Gavin and all the forgotten knowledge of the magic in the world! This is where this book is strongest! I just couldn't put it down and I want to know more of the kingdoms and all the secrets in the world~
All right, do me a favor. If you decide to read this book, skip the first 80 pages!
First there is two introductions to the book, one for the 30th anniversary edition and one for the 25th (which goes on for 44 pages total). And you just doesn't care! Maybe if you've already read the book once, but I hadn't, so I just skimmed that part.
Then the book starts! Finally... just that, it doesn't. Here the author explains his relation to The Princess Bride and why he had the need to make an abridged version, and he goes on for another 35 pages!! Ugggh!! I just wanted to read an adventure story!!
So, then, FINALLY!! The first chapter “The Bride” begins, and I really liked this story! It was wierd and adventurous and I loved the characters.
I was just mopey that it hadn't begun at once (especially since this is a modern classic!) so I already resented the book when I got to the good part.
It had a great flow after that and I enjoyed most of it!
But then I got to the ending, and the author had another mini-chapter about his struggles etc, so I just didn't bother with the last part of the book. So I've read almost everything except the excerpt from “Buttercup's Baby”. I hope I'm not missing much, but I was pretty content with the ending, so I just stopped where I felt the book had completed it's task!
At least the cover is pretty... cause the book itself was far from the best one. I have a lot of things I didn't like with it, but it also contained many things I did like. I liked the idea and the foundation of the story, I just didn't like the pace and the writing. So I'm not sure if I'll continue this series. I'm not that intrigued with the story itself, I do however want answers to the world building...
A very easy read. It's teen-litterature soyeah, ‘course it's easy.
But, overall I enjoyed it, even if I wasn't satisfied when I finished it. It fell short on many plots. Easy as it was however, it was perfect for just wiping brain-goo with and now I feel like I could tackle any hard and heavy book coming my way!
I only read the new stories in this collection (except for The Little Android, cuz it's so good! Booo~)
And overall this was a good collection!
This review should not contain much of spoilers, mostly my feels. :)
The Keeper ★★★☆☆: As always the stories around Scarlet leave me bored. This story was about her granny and it was sweet. Especially when we found out about her short lived passion between her own lunar.
After Sunshine Passes By ★★★★☆: Awwww~ This one is about Cress and I loooove her! She was adoreble in the main books, here she is tiny! Cute Cress, oh you sweet little miracle! The story wasn't top notch, but being inside Cress mind always amuse me!
The Princess and the Guard ★★★★★: This have to be my favourite story in this collection! The growing love between Winter and Jacin is one of the sweetest friendship-turned-into-something-more I've read in a long time. Their relationship is just perfect.
I also love reading more about the pre-story from Luna and Artemisia. So this was just: mmm-mmh!
The Mechanic ★★★☆☆: Cinder and Kai's first meeting from Kai's POV. Simple as that. Good but nothing surprising.
Something Old, Something New ★★★★☆: This is the story I think most people buy this collection for. This is the aftermath of the saga. There's a wedding, everyone's happy, everything is shiny and covered in unicorn-poo. ✴︎ The happily ever after chapter that wasn't included in the last book. It's pretty much what could be expected.
This book was sooo good!
I was glad to find out that Meyer stepped back up with this one and brought us so much goodness! Scarlet is however unfortunately still as boring as the last book. There's much potential with her and her storyline, especially since she and Wolf share such a burning love for each other. But, blah! Everyone have more interesting chapters than her.
Cress was such a cutie! She's a fangirl and very socially awkward, but oh so cute! I hope all ends well for her! Not sure if I agree with Dr. Erland though. Even if Thorne is my favourite and totally Chris Hemsworth in my mind, oh so perfect! Then I'm not sure if I think Cress and the Captain suit each other. I want Captain Thorne to end up with Iko instead. I see more chemistry between them.
And I love, love, loved having more chapters with Kai in this book! And everything's starting to unravel! Every secret, every closed door! Eeeeeep! Finally Kai knows everything! And I just.... puddle of goo
Yeah, well. Thumbs up!!
I have no words for this book, since there is too much feelings. But I'll try since I didn't put my thoughts down for Cinder.
I really liked this, not as much as I liked Cinder, but it was a great second book.
I had to push myself through the Scarlet chapters of this book and I also had to look up every next chapter with Cinder/Kai everytime a new Scarlet chapter began. XD
Scarlet was a good character, her story just wasn't that intriguing for me. Even though I giggled with joy when the end of the book was near and she had her “happily ending/new beginning”.
So yeah... Ugggh. I need sleep.
Edit: Oh! And also! Thorne's character is gold! The perfect comedy relief!
Wow, this took me ages to finish. Or rather, this took me ages to get into.
I hated Athena. That was the reason I disliked this book so much at the beginning (and also later on when she was without Kit for so many chapters). But I loved Athena's relation to Kit! The chemistry between them was beyong doubt magnificent! So all because they both made me giggle madly I finally found the core of this story that made me wanna continue it.
The story however was boring, intriguing, slow and exciting. I can't decide, I did however in the end like parts of it enormously!
I bought this book on a whim since 1.) a friend of mine gave me a postcard with a discount code, it was about to expire and I panicked. 2.) Felicia Day has been a great inspiration in my life in many ways and I just couldn't resist.
So, I had no idea what I was about to start reading, and I found to my surprise that this was a nice read with content I had not expected to find.
I usually hate reading books where the author strays from the main topic and run around telling stories that have nothing to do with the main focus, this is in a way what Ms. Day did in this memoir but I didn't (to my own surprise) hate any of it. On the contrary! I loved the way Felicia told her story, every small part of it, everything in her life from her past that made her the person she is today. This really was like spending time with her and getting to know her on a new level!
In my life Felicia Day has gone from being a person I fangirled about in secret (since I loved her goofyness as one of the new slayers and as the Whedon-fan I followed her on to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and then watched The Guild and all the classic Day shows) then on to me loving everything about her and having her as an inspiration for when I was making characters to our roleplaying games and then on to just admiring her and feeling like this is a nice girl on the net I'd just like to continue following. Which later on made me stalk her Vaginal Fantasy show for a couple of years ‘til I decided to start a chapter of my own (VIKING BOOTY REPRESENTING! MENTAL HIGH FIVE TO ALL VAGINISTAS OUT THERE!)
Anyway. Not only does it feel like I've gotten to know Felicia so much better, but this was also so inspirational to read! Felicia's way to encourage her readers and to open herself up and tell us all about her struggle made me both shocked and proud. My admiration for Ms. Day is bigger than ever right now!
Especially since a friend of mine posted in our Viking Booty group about the #NotOurQueen hashtag that's been going on lately. Reading those posts on Twitter at the same time I was reading this memoir made my heart ache. That hashtag is the full representation of what Felicia is trying to say that she is not! But people just want someone to burn. I don't get it, I don't get people with their rage and hate... sigh
Well, at least I feel like I get Felicia now, and I'll proudly stay her admirer in the future. She closed her book up nicely and pulled all the strings to close the bag perfectly!
So this is a book I can recommend with all my being!
Well done Felicia! Well done!
Alright, somehow this book have awoken an obsession in myself I totally didn't think would be there once I finished it.But here I am, a couple of days after I put the book down and I'm still torn about how I really feel about this story.Usually when I finish a book I just put it aside and goes “well, off to the next one!” but this time I've been pondering myself over the aftermath. I loved this book, especially the beginning, but there are so many things that bugged me! I just filtered away the stuff I really didn't like and I have been holding on to the stuff I loved like a maniac. I don't think I'll ever re-read this massive work, just for that reason, it was a little bit too much and I'm not even sure I'll continue reading the rest of the saga. But if I know myself well enough I will do it anyway, I'm just stubborn like that. But, if I ever do re-read it I'll probably have a pencil ready and re-write it as I go along, The reason I started this book is the TV series, I have wanted to read it awhile now due to the Vaginal Fantasy bookclub, but other books came in my way. And then the cliffhanger in the series happened and a hiatus until April was before me. I couldn't wait that long.I do hope they hack and slash the TV series and put it back together in a way that'll make me want to re-watch it time after time. I hope they'll find some parts in the book as annoying as I did and just ignore them, or change them for the better. I'm also really intrigued by some parts we never got answered in this first book, like who that ghost was in the beginning of the book that walked past Frank.Did Gabaldon perchance make Dougal save Geillis even though it's stated in the book that she died? (Cuz I loved Geillis! Wonderful character! Even though she was a murderer and adulterer...) Did Captain Randall survive? I mean, doesn't he have to so that a time paradox doesn't appear? (If Frank isn't born then he never marries Claire and she never steps back in time. Or is there now an alternate time line?) How does the time travelling really work? Will Claire ever return back to her own time and meet Frank again? Will they return to castle Leoch? (Cuz I miss that place...)And....ungggh! Yeah, I'll probably keep reading these book until I puke out of exhaustion. Also, I find it both interesting and funny that I finished [b:Daughter of the Forest 13928 Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) Juliet Marillier https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1343589988s/13928.jpg 1897725] just before this book, since the worlds and themes of the books felt very similar, only that Daughter of the Forest used the plot in the way I would have liked for this book to turn to.But yeah, overall I really liked this read.
I had a hard time getting started with this book, the beginning was slow and I felt like a was tossed back and forth. I couldn't really grasp the story. I actually had to start reading it all over once I dropped it but decidedly picked it up again.
And I'm so happy I did, reading it the second time, the start was just as slow, but once I got past the point where I dropped it the first time the story picked up and I felt more at home. Then one evening I decided to read a chapter and suddenly it was impossible to put the book down. Sorcha's story is told in the perfect pace, this isn't a book you skim trough in just two hours, for me it spellbound me through the whole night. Just as good, cuz the best of stories isn't cake walks or heroines doing impossible tasks in what feels like an afternoon, like “killing a dragon, gone and home again ‘til dinner”. No, it's this. This struggle and journey. Just wow!
Simply put, I loved it
