Not a great beginning for the new Reacher. He talks too much. The fight scenes are not choreographed well. If I correctly understood the plot, I don't think it makes sense.

The author spends more time telling you what he is going to explain than actually explaining it. When he does, it is to fit into his framework. Also, why does he mention twice in first two chapters that he was a drop-out?

Interesting and fun history of the creation of Disneyland. Author does a good job of keeping the many characters straight. The last chapters on the philosophy of Disneyland should have been omitted.

Interesting work. Not sure how accurate this is (lots and lots of conversations the author may not have evidence for), but offbeat characters.

The usual fun. I learned a lot about oil production on the North Slope. Wonder how much of it still holds?

I couldn't finish this book. The writing is florid and overwrought. The author never uses one adjective or noun where he could use three or four. He also constantly speculates on what Douglass might have thought or said - sometimes three or more times in a single paragraph. How this book won a Pulitzer is beyond me. Avoid it.

This will be my last Livia Lone book. She's such an unappealing character. Mute all the time when she can gain by just saying the truth, unable to express emotions except maniacal rage, unfriendly to all who befriend her.

A book written by an academic to impress other academics. For example, one section is entitled “Cases of Alterity”. There is no such word as “Alterity”. Twaddle.

Genial. The explanation is poorly done, but the world of 1865 is nicely wrought.

Brilliant. One of the ten best books I have ever read. Except for the chapter on Theism.

The story is not very interesting

Better than average thriller but too long. Also, too much about trade routes.

One of the best Reachers

A very thorough treatment of the evolutio9nary problems of the Cambrian Explosion and Information Theory. Bit dense at times.

Tries to be clever but is just kind of tedious.

A nice review of Judaism for a high school or college-age kid.

A thorough history of the tel of Lachish. Numerous illustrations and photographs. I especially like that the author gives multiple points of views. It would have helped if a few terms had been defined up front.

Interesting day by day accounting of diggin in Megiddo in the 30's. Well written, especially juggling the multitude of characters. A little to much “Had I But Known”.

Does P=NP? P are all problems that are easily solvable, NP are hard problems that are hard to solve but easy to verify. This slim volume explains the topic without the use of any mathematics. Interesting but the writing is only so-so.

Still holds up after over 100 years!

Some interesting derivations of Hebrew words. I would have given it 4 stars but there is a lot of repitition and otherwise poor editing.

Definitely not as good as the others in the series.

OK thriller but the ending seem rather abrupt

A short book, but it could have been shorter - there's a lot of repitition. Still, an interesting way to view Pirates.

Despite the author's intent, this book is not easy reading. Sometimes it is clear, sometimes not. The biggest failing is that the author often refers to several color plates, which are small and hard to see.
