More like a series of magazine articles than a coherent book, interesting updates on the state of Israeli weapons tech. Wonder why there was no coverage of seagoing vessels and submarines?

Popcorn-like fun to read. Lots of interesting facts and backgrounds about popular show tunes.

Fascinating review of what it took to leave the East and become a gold miner in California. Mostly told through journals and diaries of real people, including women. I do wonder if it was really has tough and harsh as the author portrays?

Pleasant travelogue by one man through the Alps. Somewhat humorous but not really funny.

Dry and somewhat arrogant. First third of the book is about his childhood, the second third about Beating blackjack, roulette and the market and the final third explaining finance and personal finance.

Decent addition to her series

Fascinating if a little outdated study of why a few companies succeed for a long time.

A really nice overview of modern cosmology. My only cavil with the book is that it is more “Cosmos” than “Caclulating”. Don;t read it for the math, read it for the astrophysics.

The atmosphere of Victorian London is probably the strongest suit for this book, although I fear it is often anachronistic. Barker is not hugely compelling. The ending is too protracted.

Masterful overview of the usefulness of intelligence during WWII. The author inserts his opinion forcefully and often and is probably right. The reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that I found awkward sentences on every other page, but it might be just Britishisms. Don't miss this if you're a fan of the subject.

Repetitive and plodding. No flashes of insight.

Solid book, lots of characters.

Decent mystery from the 40's.

Good local Jerusalem singles coverage. But Dave is an uninteresting and boring character, no wonder he can't find a girl.

The ex-army man on the run has been done much better by others. The old man does not come across as particularly interesting or resourceful.

Boring and repetitious. Feels like Mr. Block gathered up his notes and introductions and slung them together into a book. Seems very proud of his soft-core porn work. One or two interesting topics but not worth slugging through.

Well-written, blistering book about the opiate explosion. The author skillfully draws together many strands of a complicated story. However, somewhere after the middle of the book, he tells the same story over and over and over and over and...

The author aims for a breezy style but never quite gets there.

If you love books, you'll love this book!

Thorough and informed recounting of Twain's global lecture tour. The end and especially the beginning had waaaaay too much detail about Twain's debt, making the book overlong.

Brutal. Almost as good as the first one.

Everything you wanted to know about obelisks!

James Rollin's writing improves with each book. Standard mix of science and action. The stuff at the end about the animals bordered on nauseating. If you like any book in this series, you'll like this one.
