Alien: Out of the Shadows

Out of the Shadows asks the question: What if the event bridging Alien and Aliens is the storyline of Aliens.

I thought I’d check out the Dirk Maggs dramatization for this one. Laurel Lefkow deliver’s Lebbon’s Ellen Ripley impeccably. Rutger Hauer’s Ash fails to capture the character at all. The choice to keep him around as a malicious AI is nearly as bad as the heavily accented delivery. The whole thing sounds like a video game cutscene.

The experience of reading this book as a child was very much like Winnie’s experience with the Tucks—my own, for the first time. I can’t think of a better book to instill a healthy sense of independence and the concept of trust in a child.
