Wow. Best book of the year for me so far. Michelle McNamara - what an amazing writer. Such a loss.
I kept wanting this book to be more than it was. The first 100 pages and the last 50 pages were more than engaging, but the 300 pages in between were torturous!
O. M. G. This book!! Just finished and absolutely adored! Such rich characters, engaging storylines, and well-crafted plotting. Well done John Boyne!
If you liked A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving and/or The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, this might just be your next favorite read!
Now... what to read following inevitable 24-hour book hangover...
Oh, Marie Semple, you lovely genius you. This is how I want to write when I grow up... Sigh.
Well, what to say... This was well written with many interesting details woven through the story, but I just didn't really care about the characters at all. Meh.
Amazing, brilliant, character-driven commentary on the perversion of reality in modern life and the 24 hour news cycle.
Only 3 stars from me for this one... can't seem to figure out why! Great writing, intriguing story, interesting main character... just didn't connect for some reason. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Great series. Not a “true” spoiler, but... Only Paul Cleave can make me feel so much about the unexpected death of a spider! Ha! (Aside from EB White, of course.)
Amazing. Wish I had written this myself.
I can't believe the characters of Sarah and Angelina Grimke were based on real sisters who were female pioneers in the abolitionist and feminist movements. I was thrilled to learn this and only wish I had learned about them sooner back in high school and/or college history classes!
This is the first book I have read by Wally Lamb. While I found his writing to be excellent and enjoyed the “multiple points of view” narrative, the chapters written from Annie's cousin's perspective were sickening - which they were clearly meant to be and again gives credit to Lamb's talent. That being said, I still wish I hadn't been subjected to the details in those sections.
