See allThis book immediately became my all time favourite. I can't believe it took me so long to read this gem and regret not having this in my life earlier. The writing and the emotional connection I feel towards each character made James Baldwin my favorite author right off the bet. Ordered two of his other books immediately to feel this void now that I've finished his book. Will I ever be able to find another book like this?
Edit: I'm still thinking about this book. I love the feeling how a really good book makes you introspective and feel all sorts of different emotions. I've missed this feeling for so long. I think I finally woke up from a reading slump that I didn't even know I had.
I'm grateful that I've gotten a chance to read this book. Heartbreaking family saga. I would definitely re-read it again in the future.
“...a woman's life is endless work and suffering. There is suffering and then more suffering. It's better to expect it, you know. You're becoming a woman, so you should be told this....”
WHY DID SHE WRITE THIS BOOK. I can't help but wonder. I don't even know how to rate this book. I'm hungover and I think I'll be hungover for a very long time until I'll be able to rate this book or even to decide if I liked it or hated it.
I didn't cry as much as other videos did but there were so many parts that I wanted to give up. It's very depressing is all I can say and took me longer than average to collect myself to finish this book. Please do not approach unless you're in a mentally stable place.
