Exactly the kind of gritty, convoluted, fantastical book I would expect from Gaiman. I loved this story, and found the characters so interesting and multifaceted. The climax and conclusion were exactly what I needed, and I found the whole thing riveting.
This book had a LOT of characters and I felt that sometimes it was hard to tell who was narrating, and the voices were often pretty similar. Besides that, and the dialect being a challenge, I thought this was a hard-hitting and realistic portrayal of addiction, and an important read.
This book was a really strong relating of a difficult childhood, and the way Walls told the stories was vivid and riveting. However, I felt that there was a lot of storytelling and less “memoir” type content, and I would have loved more present day insights or reflections of feelings.
All of the recipes in this book are creative, approachable, and I love the sustainability notes and information. As someone who loves seafood, this is an amazing book to have on hand.
