The Miserable Mill

Wrote a review for

A quick, if a little boring read in the series. I am really looking forward to later books where I remember the plot gets deeper.

The Austere Academy

Another good installment in this series, one of my favourites so far. The introduction of characters I remembered vaguely from later in the series was a great touch.

Very much looking forward to the conclusion of this series.

The Ersatz Elevator

Wrote a review for

Coming back to write this review at the end of 2019, I can still remember a strong sense of this book. This makes this one probably a better book in this series.

In terms of re-reading this series as an adult, I feel like the middle portion of this series really suffers. Initially from a formulaic story format in the first 4-5 books, and afterwards from a forgettable plot.

The Carnivorous Carnival

Wrote a review for

This was a short entry in the final half of this series, which followed on from a disappointing book. Like the previous story, I did not enjoy this book.

I did enjoy the plot relevant reveals, and can't wait to get to the next book which I hope will surprise me.

The End

Wrote a review for

I gave up on reviewing each individual book in this series as there are so many and they are so short. I really enjoyed re-reading the series; especially as I didn't remember the ending at all. I think they are fantastic books and I wish I had read more books like this as a kid.

The ending was a bit of a disappointment for me. The penultimate book was much stronger in my opinion; particularly as I felt the plot was more memorable.

Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic: The Graphic Novel

Wrote a review for

This is my first Discworld novel, and indeed the first book I've read by Terry Pratchett. I have had my eye on the Long Earth series as well which I will hopefully get to one day.

I found the writing and plot of this book delightfully reminiscent of reading Hitchhiker's Guide. It was a light and witty book that I flew through. I found I enjoyed it even more than Hitchhiker's because it was set in a fantasy world which is something I'm more familiar with than scifi. It was such a peculiar and amazing feeling to be reading the description of the discworld for myself, as I only knew of it through hearing references and other people describe it.

Rincewind and Death are my two favourite characters from this book, and I genuinely can't wait to see who pops up in the next book.
