Falling Stars

Wrote a review for

🎧 This is an Audiobook Review 🌟

I just finished listening to the audiobook of Falling Stars by Julie Rogers, and I am absolutely in love with this story! The narration was incredible, bringing the characters and their emotional journeys to life in such a vivid way. The way the story shifts between the past and present was so well done—it's one of those rare books that you can’t help but get lost in.

Nine-year-old Tommy Lucas, facing leukemia, believes he's a vampire - and his journey intersects beautifully with the mysterious Viscount Claudius Fallon's WWII-era story. The way Rogers transitions between timelines is absolutely seamless, each chapter building upon the last to create an emotionally rich narrative.

What truly shines is how the author handles Tommy's perspective with such care and authenticity, while crafting a compelling love story between his oncologist mother June and the enigmatic Fallon. The vampire/dhampyre elements add a unique twist to what could have been a typical medical drama.

The historical elements set in Eureka Springs during WWII are meticulously researched, making the past come alive alongside the contemporary storyline. Each timeline complements the other perfectly, creating a reading experience that's both engaging and deeply moving.

If you’re a fan of urban fantasy with a deeply emotional core, Falling Stars is a must-read (or must-listen)! It totally deserves its recognition as the 2023 International Firebird Winner for First Place in Urban Fantasy! 🌟📖🎧

Crowned by the Fae

ARC Review

Hey everyone! 📚✨ I just finished *Crowned by the Fae*, and wow, I’m still reeling! This prequel packs a punch with its blend of humor, adventure, and a heart-wrenching twist that will leave you reaching for the tissues. 😢💔

Meet Ash, our fearless and ambitious fae who’s got her sights set on killing a dragon—because, why not? 🐉💥 She wants to impress the high queen and secure her spot as a crown guardian, all while the threat of war looms between the Seelie and Unseelie fae. Talk about pressure! But Ash is anything but ordinary; she balances bravery with a relatable sense of humor.

Now, let’s talk about her betrothed, Theophilus. Ash can’t stand him (and honestly, I can’t blame her). When a troll attacks during a fateful ride, Theophilus abandons her, leaving Ash to face danger alone. Enter Cypress—a swoon-worthy fae who jumps in to save her life! ✨💖 Their connection is instant and electric, and enchanting.

Ash’s decision to run away with Cypress instead of marrying Theo felt so freeing, and their journey together is filled with moments that tugged at my heart. But brace yourselves, because this story doesn’t wrap everything up neatly. While it’s sprinkled with humor and adventure, it takes a bittersweet turn that left me in tears. I won’t spoil it, but trust me, you’ll want those tissues handy. 😭🌧️

*Crowned by the Fae* is a captivating blend of courage, love, and sacrifice, making it a must-read for any fantasy fan. While this story doesn’t have a traditional happy ending, it sets the stage beautifully for the main series, *Blessed by the Fae*. I can’t wait to see where Ash’s journey leads next! 🦄💫

The Brothers Bane

Wrote a review for

ARC review

The Brothers Bane takes readers on a thrilling ride through the dark and enchanting world of Tartarus, where Nemea Jones grapples with her newfound chaotic powers. Ophelia Bell does an excellent job of crafting a rich, immersive environment filled with alluring monsters and formidable gods.

Nemea's journey is both compelling and relatable as she seeks to understand her place in a realm that is as dangerous as it is captivating. I particularly enjoyed the tension between her desire for belonging and the harsh reality that this world is not the home she envisioned. The plot thickens as she confronts the warden of Tartarus, who becomes her unlikely ally—and love interest—against the impending threat of four furious Titans.

What I appreciated most was the emotional depth woven into the narrative. The relationship dynamics are well-developed, adding layers to the story, and the stakes feel genuinely high. However, I felt that some plot points could have been further explored to enhance the overall impact.

Overall, The Brothers Bane is a mesmerizing read, perfect for fans of dark fantasy and mythological tales. I recommend it for anyone seeking a blend of romance, chaos, and adventure.

Court of Heathens

“There are many things that go bump in the night, and I am one of them.” This gripping opening line sets the stage for K.A. Knight's Court of Heathens, a tale that beautifully intertwines dark fantasy and self-discovery infused with just the right amount of spice!

Our protagonist is not your typical witch—she's grappling with a darkness that threatens to consume her. Instead of being all-knowing and powerful, she feels lost, making her journey of acceptance incredibly relatable. Watching her navigate the shadows while learning to trust herself and her unexpected allies kept me turning the pages!

And let's talk about the spice! The chemistry between the characters adds an electrifying tension that makes the story pop. Those steamy moments are perfectly timed, enhancing the plot without overshadowing the depth of the narrative. It's a delightful blend of intensity and passion that adds dimension to her journey.

As she confronts the chaos around her, the question looms: Can she reclaim her former self, or will she forever be lost to the darkness? Knight masterfully explores this theme, making readers reflect on their own struggles with identity and acceptance.

In conclusion, Court of Heathens is a beautifully written fantasy that challenges conventions and dives deep into the complexities of identity and morality. If you're a fan of dark, character-driven stories that explore the shades of good and evil, this book deserves a spot on your shelf.

Soul Code

Wrote a review for

ARC Review - Hey, book lovers! I just finished *Soul Code*, and let me tell you, it was an exhilarating experience from start to finish! 📚✨

This contemporary romance introduces us to a female tech genius who seems to have it all figured out—except for one crucial aspect: connection. As someone who spends her days deep in algorithms and code, she struggles with isolation that lingers long after the workday ends. I found her character incredibly relatable, capturing that feeling of being on the outside looking in, especially in a world dominated by technology.

The plot thickens when she’s tasked with beta testing an advanced AI system designed by three brilliant and undeniably attractive colleagues. What initially appears to be a straightforward assignment quickly unravels into a web of complexity and suspense. The men begin to watch her every move, transforming their data collection into something bordering on obsession. It’s a fascinating exploration of vulnerability and the human need for connection, especially when layered with the tension of hidden secrets.

Blake Black brilliantly crafts a world where technology meets raw emotion, and I found myself equally invested in the protagonist's journey and her evolving relationships with these three enigmatic men. The dynamics between them are electric and complicated, making you root for her to find the connection she desperately craves, all while keeping you on the edge of your seat.

The writing is immersive, and the pacing is just right for a medium burn—allowing the tension to build without ever feeling rushed. And let’s talk about the spicy scenes! 🔥 They add a whole new dimension to the story, perfectly balancing the emotional weight with palpable chemistry.

Just a heads up: *Soul Code* does end on a cliffhanger that will leave you eagerly anticipating the next book in the Coded Connections Duet!

If you’re looking for a read that combines romance, technology, and a touch of suspense, I highly recommend diving into *Soul Code*. You won’t regret it! Can’t wait to see where Blake Black takes us next! 💖

Blood Moon: Born In Blood

Wrote a review for

I recently dove into *Blood Moon* by Melanie Gurenko, and let me tell you, I absolutely loved it! This enchanting tale drew me in with its mix of fantasy, romance, and a clever mystery that kept me guessing. 💖📖

The story follows Olivia Villanueva, who wakes up from a life-altering coma after a car accident, only to find her mind tangled in confusion and fragmented memories. As the daughter of the Vampire King of Andalusia, she has always had a unique destiny, but now she’s faced with the additional pressure of marrying her fiancé, Rafael, in just six months. To make sense of her new reality, Olivia is allowed to study at the Academia of Supernatural Beings—a decision that leads her down a path filled with unexpected twists.

What I loved most about Olivia's journey is her quest for identity amidst chaos. Gurenko brilliantly portrays her internal struggle, making her relatable and empathetic. As Olivia grapples with memories of historical figures and the feeling that something significant is missing from her life, readers are drawn into her emotional turmoil.

Enter Killian, the devilishly handsome Werewolf who turns Olivia's world upside down. Their chemistry is intoxicating, and he challenges everything Olivia thought she knew about herself and her place in the supernatural world. Their interactions are charged and filled with tension, making for some deliciously captivating moments.

The mystery surrounding a missing professor adds another layer of intrigue to the story. What happened to him? Why does no one seem to know? This subplot kept me on the edge of my seat, eager to uncover the truth alongside Olivia.

Gurenko’s writing is immersive, creating a vivid world that feels alive with supernatural beings and rich lore. The pacing is just right, allowing moments of reflection amid the action, and her prose flows beautifully.

Overall, *Blood Moon* is an enchanting read that balances elements of romance, self-discovery, and mystery seamlessly. If you’re a fan of fantasy that features strong characters and a plot that keeps you guessing, I highly recommend picking up this gem! You won’t regret it! 🌙✨

The idea of a villain being just as compelling as a hero is brilliantly executed here. Each story pulls you into the lives of those who boldly defy the norms, showcasing characters that range from clever schemers to charming rogues. Hey, everyone! 📖💖 I just devoured *Echo of Wings*, and I can't wait to share my thoughts! This gripping fantasy follows 18-year-old Lillian, who is facing the grim reality of her own mortality but refuses to let that define her. Instead of succumbing to despair, she fights for her legacy, wanting to join her father's rebel group and make an impact before it's too late.

After a heartbreaking tragedy, Lillian takes matters into her own hands and sets out for revenge against the King of Orios. Her decision to enter the perilous King’s Guard Trials, despite Eli’s objections, adds layers of tension and excitement. The trials are brutal, filled with dark magic and mythical creatures—seriously, the world-building here is fantastic! 🐉

What really struck me was Lillian’s growth. She starts off sheltered but evolves into a fierce warrior, facing not just external threats but also the betrayal lurking among her fellow contestants. The friendships she forms with the ever-optimistic Finn and fellow rebel Astrid are heartwarming, bringing a lightness to the dark journey she’s on. And oh, the tension with her mysterious commander? Talk about complicated!

As she navigates the trials, whispers of the Valkyries and the return of dragons keep the stakes high and the plot twisting. I found myself questioning everything alongside Lillian—who can she trust when secrets seem to be everywhere?
