Hard hitting truths for me.
Feel pretty exposed and vulnerable after this one - time to be gracious, kind and forgiving with myself and get to work.
It was bizarre. So much of this flew way over my head (I've been a bit of an unfocused reader recently).
That said, I'm really glad I read this. Kafka paints with such a complexity of greys - it felt like Camus at times, and then like Bulgakov at others. Some beautifully written scenes (the painter, the church).
It's nice to read some other reviews where people were saying that they too thought they knew what was going on and then it was like the book was saying ‘you know nothing' and realise we're all in the same boat.
Thanks Franz
Simple and insightful. Thanks for broadening my understanding of comedy, apprenticeship and celebrity, Steve.
I've never really read short stories before. This took me a while to get through (maybe because each time I go back i'm entering a new world?)
Some more enticing than others. What We Talk About When We Talk About Love (the second last story) was my favourite. Reminded me of a short film. A lot of these stories actually made me think of scene work for actors, so in that sense it felt incredibly useful.
