Told the parallel histories of modern rocketry/NASA and JFK to explain how we landed on the moon so quickly. Appreciated the discussion on von Braun's past, but got a smidge lost on some of the dates mentioned post WWII (probably would have been more clear if I wasn't listening to it).
Also, the narrator kept mispronouncing Gilruth.
Took me a few chapters to get into, but it's a solid enemies to lovers romance with enough plot to keep me entertained. Descriptions are a little fuzzy throughout, but the author relies on enough tropes that it's fairly easy to fill in details yourself. Not the best book I've ever read but I was entertained.
Why didn't she learn her powers?! Like come on she had all those books.
Update: It's been a couple months so I tried to finish this, but I couldn't even get 10 more pages in. I don't care about any of the characters. I hate the main character's internal dialogue. And the constant flipping of tenses was driving me me nuts. Conceptually the story was interesting, but the author needs a better editor.
In all, I made it to 20% complete, this is an absolute DNF.
ARC Review via BookSirens!
I could not, for the life of me, get in to this book. The story did not draw me in enough to distract me from the writing style. The tense and POV changes kept pulling me out and I felt the book needed a lesson in the “show, don't tell” technique.
The main character just annoyed me so much. His thoughts read like the stereotypical “squirrel” representation of ADHD.
I honestly hate DNF-ing books, so maybe I'll come back and finish one day.
Also I find it weird that Book Sirens asks for an honest review but then the DNF page says not to post the feedback publicly.
Ok this book was way better than the first. I think not having to set up the premise really helped move the story along.
Darcy and Tory are less annoying. We get perspectives from the boys, which helps humanize them. And there's actually spice!
Fae-book still drives me crazy and I think the whole fae/order thing is dumb. Like, just call them vampires. But they haven't said seed yet so I'm calling it a win.
I really struggled with this book. Definitely not a fan of bully romance and the hazing drove me crazy.
The writing read like this was their first book, but I don't think it is. And I wish they gave Tory and Darcy stronger characteristics from their time as mortals. Also Fae-book? They couldn't come up with something better?
But it ends with cliffhanger, so I'm gonna have to read the next one.
Picked this audiobook out purely based on the title and did not realize it was about my hometown! Can confirm we learned about the Moonlight Towers in school but not the reason they went up.
Loved how he included extra information about the culture of the city at the time.
Bonus points for the excellent narrator.
I don't really know how to rate this book. It definitely felt like something we would've read in English class in high school. Don't think I know the history of America's presence in the Caribbean well enough to fully understand everything this book was trying to say.
But I enjoyed the book tho so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
ARC Review! Definitely heed those content warnings, which I really appreciated being on a dedicated page at the beginning.
It's been a while since I've read a contemporary romance and oof those emotions. Because we had all the different POVs it was pretty obvious what their relationship was going to become. But I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. Evie's story is genuinely relatable and I'm glad it's a story that's being told.
I liked all the characters and appreciated the representation. Christopher's personality hit a little too close to home though :).
My only complaint is I totally missed Charlie and Christopher becoming friends. I'm glad they did but it seemed a little out of the blue.
Alright, well, I'm a sucker for this series. I totally cried.
I almost DNF'd half way through because the 2nd hand anxiety was too real, but glad I didn't. The ending made up for it.
The whole book felt a little rushed. I wish she'd explored the side plot with the maintenance guy more/earlier. Also, please just send these two to therapy.
