What I love most about this book is Díaz's ability to keep the narrative flowing from one character to the next. Weaving the stories through generations of a family—genius! After the second chapter, this became a really easy read. I found a lot of joy in reading these stories and also sadness; there are some truly horrific stories in here. Fantastic writing. I love the cadence. There's also some really funny and relatable prose in here. It was just great!
This book reminds you not to take your family and your unique life for granted. I started reading this book to get ahead of the Apple TV series—it's a good book! I wish it were longer, but it made me reflect on my life and I love the sci-fi adventure component of this book.
It's so good. There were so many moments when I had to put this book down because my heart was beating so fast, and I was literally terrified for the characters. You become so attached to the characters. Love this book! The main character is on a mission to bring magic back to her people. The book takes you on a trip through the tribal, ancient, and magical lands of Orisha. You feel like you're walking the trade routes from Ilorin to Lagos.
I think this is a good book to get caught up on global warming and it's impact on coral reefs. In this book, you get to follow Juli as she networks and learns about all these different approaches to coral health and restoration. If you are trying to find your role in climate-action initiatives, this is a good place to start. Juli also draws parallels between how we approach mental health and how we restore ecosystems, I appreciated the personal story. I think it's a pretty smooth read, not too dense, although there are a lot of numbers and statistics, etc.
