Fierce and Addictive
This is everything I hoped for and more. The best book for the year! I loved it so much!
Maggie is compelling and layered, navigating impossible choices with a mix of grit and vulnerability that’s impossible not to root for. As always, the writing is effortlessly immersive, with sharp dialogue and a rich sense of atmosphere that kept me turning pages well into the night.
What a powerful blend of tension, heart, and storytelling mastery - another standout from a favourite author.
Remarkable Time Travel Story
That is a truly remarkable time travel romance! One of the best in its category. I love how the story explores significant differences between the main characters, and really captures the essence of what happens when vastly different cultures collide. The story has everything - humour, passion, heartbreak and intensity, creating sparks with every cultural clash.
The writing is so captivating that it's almost impossible to put the book down. Each page draws you deeper into the story, making you eager to see how the characters navigate their challenges.
This isn't your typical historical romance where the heroine relies heavily on the hero. Cassie is a very strong and independent woman. Her resilience shines as she adapts to life in 1815, determined to forge her own path even in an unfamiliar era.
The love story between Cassie and Ross is beautifully crafted. I had a delightful, goofy smile most of the time. The romance is both heartwarming and satisfying, characters are well-rounded and endearing.
The only downside is that the book ends. I just wishing for an additional chapter or an epilogue to savour the story a bit longer. Better yet, I hope for a sequel to continue this enchanting journey.
The story is written with dual POV.
Best Start of the Year
Oh my! This book was absolutely delicious - hilarious, charming, and wildly entertaining from start to finish. Mallory is so adorable and capable even without magic, I instantly fell in love with her. Her interactions with Alexander are pure gold. Their banter had me laughing out loud repeatedly. I couldn't stop laughing for a good five minutes over poor Kevin. Moments like that are comedic perfection.
I got this story as an ebook from author and then as an audiobook from Netgalley, and I have to say the narrator is simply superb. Her voice is marvellous, and her performance elevated an already fantastic story and made it even more vivid and entertaining.
An absolute joy to read - easily the best start to my reading year. I adored every moment of it and I just want more!
Dark, Gritty, and Absolutely Magnificent
Lydia Hope has truly outdone herself with Seven Oar. This book was nothing short of magnificent. It takes the Rix Universe in a darker, grittier direction than Homebound or Sky Song, and I loved every moment of it.
At the centre of the story is one of the most compelling anti-hero male leads I've read in a long time - complex, flawed, and utterly magnetic. He brings depth and unpredictability to the narrative, and paired with the twists and turns of the plot, the result is breathtaking. There were moments that genuinely left me reeling, shocked in the best possible way, yet always eager to turn the next page.
At its heart, Seven Oar is a story about survival - enduring unimaginable, almost incomprehensible conditions and finding a way forward despite everything. That core theme makes the book all the more powerful, layering grit with resilience and hope.
Despite its darker tone, the book didn't feel bleak. Lydia Hope weaved in threads of hope and inspiration, balancing the rawness of the world with moments of profound humanity. It's this balance between brutal challenges and glimmers of light that made the story unforgettable.
For me, Seven Oar stands out as one of the very best books I've read this year. It's shocking, emotional, inspiring, and impossible to put down. If I could give it ten stars, I absolutely would and I already know I'll be diving back in for a reread soon.
Marvellous story!
It's a second book in Rix Universe but totally different than Homebound. It's a standalone story and there's no need to read Homebound to enjoy this book unless you want to of course!
It's a light and sweet story of Cricket and Lyle.
Cricket is trying to set a life on a new planet, get well and save money to bring her mom to live with her. And here comes Lyle, with a mission of his own. They meet accidentally and something sparkles out of this.
I love Lydia Hope books, each one of them is different, each story is unique. I enjoy the complex story lines and slow burn romance with sci-fi elements.
A Charming Austen-Style Romance with Heart and Humour
What a delightful historical romance! Sense and Suitability captured everything I love about a story written in the spirit of Jane Austen. It has all the essential ingredients: sparkling humour, clever and witty conversation, genuine mutual pining that tugs at the heart, and, refreshingly, a real, believable reason for the characters' separation rather than a contrived or manufactured obstacle. That depth made the romance all the more satisfying when the pieces finally came together.
Pepper Basham's writing shines with warmth and charm, delivering a story that feels both classic and fresh. The balance between light-hearted banter and emotional weight was beautifully done, keeping me thoroughly engaged from start to finish.
I listened to the audiobook and loved the choice of a dual narration. Having both a female and male narrator added richness to the experience, and their voices complemented each other perfectly. It made the characters feel even more alive and added an extra layer of enjoyment to an already lovely read.
Sense and Suitability was a warm, witty, and heartfelt historical romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's the kind of book that leaves you smiling and feeling uplifted - exactly what a good Austen-inspired story should do.
I've received an ARC copy from NetGalley.
I'm always amazed by how Helen Harper can take seemingly familiar concepts, tropes, and ideas and weave them into something fresh, exciting, and utterly captivating. Even though my experience with her previous books has proven time and time again that she's a master of this craft, it still leaves me in awe every time I pick up one of her new releases. Waifs and Strays is no exception—it's a delightful gem of a book that manages to feel both comfortingly familiar and wholly original. As a cat person, this story was an absolute treat! Helen Harper's imagination knows no bounds, and she brings a unique and magical twist to feline themes that had me hooked from the start. Kit, the protagonist, is a 41-year-old self-proclaimed cat lady. But as we quickly discover, there's far more to her than meets the eye. Her character is richly layered, blending warmth, humour, and a quiet strength that makes her instantly relatable and likable.
The themes of Waifs and Strays go beyond the whimsical surface of cats and magic. It's a story about identity, resilience, and the unexpected ways life can change—even when you think you've got it all figured out. Kit's journey is both heartwarming and empowering, reminding readers that it's never too late to embrace who you truly are or to step into a larger, more extraordinary role in life. The secondary characters are just as compelling as Kit herself. Each one adds depth and dimension to the story, whether through moments of comic relief, emotional support, or intrigue. The relationships Kit builds with them feel authentic and nuanced, adding layers to the narrative that kept me fully engaged.
The pacing of the book is spot-on. From the very first chapter, I was pulled into the story, and the twists and turns kept me turning pages late into the night. Helen Harper balances moments of action and mystery with quieter, more introspective scenes that give the reader a chance to connect with the characters on a deeper level.
The world-building is another highlight, brimming with magic, charm, and a touch of the unexpected. Helen Harper's attention to detail brings the setting to life, creating a vivid backdrop for the story. For fans of magical adventures, lovable characters, and, of course, cats, this book is a pure delight. I loved Waifs and Strays every bit as much as her previous works and can't wait to see where this new series will take us next. If you're a fan of Helen Harper or just love stories with heart, imagination, and a touch of feline magic, you won't want to miss this one.
Impressive beginning!
Folkloric (Folkloric #1) by Karenza Grant marks the true beginning of an intriguing new series. While events from the prequel (Folkloric Fae, Folkloric #0.5) are briefly mentioned in passing, it's not necessary to read the prequel before diving into this book—it stands perfectly well on its own.
The story is set in a richly imagined world inspired by French small-town folklore, which adds a unique and enchanting charm to the narrative. The FMC is unexpectedly thrust into the mysterious and dangerous realm of the fae, struggling to believe and adapt to the reality of their existence. Her journey of discovery and adjustment feels authentic and relatable, drawing readers deeper into the story.
The plot is fast-paced, keeping the pages turning, while the character development is impressive, with each figure adding depth and complexity to the unfolding tale. The book provided an excellent blend of intrigue, suspense, and emotional growth, making it a fantastic start to the series.
I'm thoroughly impressed and excited to dive deeper into this captivating world.

The author seamlessly weaves mythical elements with the fae lore, creating a setting that's as magical as it is immersive.
This novella serves as an excellent introduction to the series, offering just the right balance of intrigue, world-building, and character development to draw readers in.

Fabulous dose of non-stop action
The story is packed with high-energy sequences and tension that rarely lets up, culminating in a great ending with a clever, neatly executed solution to the challenges faced by the characters.
While the romance subplot adds a nice touch, I found myself wishing for more descriptions of romantic interactions and a deeper build-up of the connection between the characters.
That said, given the relentless pace and the constant running around, it's understandable that there wasn't much room for quieter moments. Overall, this instalment is an exhilarating and satisfying ending of the series.
Thrilling, action-packed ride from start to finish.
The story moves at such a relentless pace that I couldn't put it down—it truly felt like I swallowed it whole in one intense sitting. The high-stakes action and gripping tension kept me on edge, with twists and turns that made it impossible to stop reading.
Amidst the chaos and danger, a budding romance begins to blossom, adding a layer of warmth and anticipation that perfectly complements the pulse-pounding plot.
This book seamlessly weaves together heart-stopping action and emotional depth, making it an unmissable continuation of the series

Diving Deeper into Danger
This part immerses deeper in to the world. We meet with problems and troubles for dystopian world.
Max once again proves to be a formidable heroine, torn between her desire for a quiet life and the ever-present pull to help those in need. She is strong, smart, sensible and independent - great combination.
The world-building in Called is exceptional, with vivid descriptions and multiple interconnected problems that heighten the sense of urgency and stakes. I love how expertly those threads woven together, creating a story that feels both immediate and deeply immersive.
There is no romance at the moment, but it might be in the next book.
____
Called expands on the foundation laid in Outcast, delivering an action-packed and emotionally charged continuation of Max's story. With its unique blend of dystopia and urban fantasy, this series offers a compelling mix of mystery, danger, and resilience. If you're a fan of fast-paced fantasy with a strong, relatable heroine, The Grey Gates series is a must-read.
If no one knows that you saved the world, does it really count?
This intriguing question sets the stage for Outcast, the first book in a gripping series by Vanessa Nelson.
As the third book I've read from this author, I'm once again captivated by her ability to craft rich, immersive worlds that seamlessly blend dystopia with urban fantasy.
I really love this blend and the set up. So masterfully combined with mystery, magic, and suspense, - It hooked me from the very first page. The darker tone and oppressive feeling amplified the stakes, making Max's world feel both fantastical and achingly real.
FMC's backstory as an orphan who endured bullying and injustice adds a poignant depth to her character. She's a heroine who can hold her own, balancing vulnerability and strength as she fights to build a new, independent life.
There is no romance at the moment.
_____
The story followed Max, a resilient and determined heroine who, eight years after the world almost ended, is still paying the price for being unjustly accused of betrayal and failure. Now working as a Marshal, she dedicates herself to protecting the city from supernatural threats while keeping her past buried. But when a series of vicious murders threatens her city—and possibly her life—Max is forced to confront her secrets as she races to find the killer before it's too late.
If you enjoy fantasy mixed with mystery, complex characters, and a heroine who refuses to back down, Outcast is a must-read. Vanessa Nelson proves once again why she's an author to watch. I can't wait to see how Max's story unfolds in the rest of this completed series.
Unexpected surprise
I didn't expect a new book featuring Natasha and Matthew, so Echoes of a Fatal Past was such a delightful surprise!
Louise Allen delivers yet again with a fresh, complex mystery that pulls you in from the start. This instalment not only deepens the history behind the Clock House but introduces new characters who seamlessly turn into friends.
The twists and turns in this book kept me guessing right up until the end, and the evolving dynamic between Natasha and Matthew added even more depth. A fantastic continuation of the series!
A finale that is nothing short of spectacular!
What I love most about Harper's writing is her ability to take concepts that we think we know and completely flip them into something fresh and exciting. It's a talent she showcases so brilliantly throughout this and all of her series. She masterfully blends heartfelt romance, edge-of-your-seat action, and the perfect dose of humor, making every moment feel alive and electric.
The characters, especially our beloved Daisy, continue to evolve in ways that are so satisfying. She's finally dealt with addiction and became even stronger than before.
The romance feels organic and deeply emotional. Helen Harper's ability to craft intense and yet tender moments amidst all the chaos is just incredible. Every twist and turn kept me hooked, and the stakes were higher than ever. The pacing is fast, and I found myself cheering, laughing, and holding my breath in equal measure.
Helen Harper has cemented herself as a master of storytelling, and I can't wait to see what she does next!

The Wallflower Trap by B.W. Haggart is an absolute gem of a novel, a must-read for any Regency romance enthusiast. Set in 1814, this book offers a perfect blend of historical accuracy and deeply engaging storytelling, making it an irresistible read from start to finish.

John (Jack) Tremaine, who has just returned to England from the Napoleonic wars. His encounter with the intriguing Lady Mimolette Lindsey at his aunt's ball sets the stage for a captivating and heartfelt romance.
The mastermind behind the plan to bring attention to the Wallflower ladies, Lady Mimolette, with secrets of her own, is a character I cannot help but admire and root for. Jack's determination to win her over, beating her at her own game, is both endearing and entertaining.
What truly sets this book apart is its infusion of humour. Remarkable story!
I loved this book! The slow world and character building made the connection with MC much more deeper. I love it when the authors are able to make you feel all the kinds of emotions with their writing.
This book is for someone who likes plot first and romance second. This is not a book where it's all about romance and smut.
This author is now my favourite! I'm very happy to see new book release set in the same world - Sky Song.
Intriguing new fantasy series
It's better to read a Prequel Novella before reading the main story The Turncoat King, as it provides the backstory of how Ava and Luc met.
Ava has a special magical abilities but she has to hide from everyone.
It's a horde nomad style of life, Ava joined forces with Luc to amass an army and prepare for a battle.
