Not even going to rate the book.
Was a collection of absolute nonsense. I get why people my have been drawn to the book because of its at times humorous, ridiculous ideas. But it was absolutely terrible, listening to the author ramble on about unimportant stuff and rushing past the important ones, aka mental health.
The “funny” in the tittle is literally one loud exhale through the nose during the entire read.
Steer clear of this one.
“From the depths of the mirror, a corpse gazed back at me. The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me.”
Rating this book out of 5 stars is just wrong.
Elie Wiesel narrates his father and his experiences at Auschwitz with gruesome detail, full of anguish.
Somehow, I keep coming back to Holocaust survivor stories. They give me the strength to power through my own difficulties and make my problems seem insignificant.
Maybe that is a little selfish on my part.
But it always leads me to appreciate the little things in life more than before.
The book reminded me of another good book on the Holocaust : Man's search for meaning.
A must read for every human.
Wasn't aware that King wrote short stories!
Why shouldn't he? He has had immense success with novels.
Narrating 4 new stories, King doesn't shy away from adding creepy situations and creatures.
The audiobook version is narrated by three brilliant narrators as with their previously narrated books that I listened to. My favorite story was Mr. Harrigan's phone.
I think its safe to say that I dug myself a deep hole with King's work this year, starting with the outsider. But its time to give other authors a chance now.
Out of all the short stories I've read over the years, only one comes to mind that I won't ever stop vehemently recommending, Jeffry Archer.
This book is so good good good.
Am so happy happy happy I listened to it :p
Five stars not enough. Me need more stars.
Finally coming out of reviewing books slump.
Without spoiling anything, the story is about a mission to save planet earth from an imminent threat. But it teaches about a lot more than surviving in harsh environments or situations. Its about friendship, kindness and basic human decency.
If you do decide to read this book, I'd urge you to listen to the audio book instead. Its brilliantly performed and immerses you in the story from the get go.
Did not expect the book to be this emotional. It made me cry!
The last two chapters are so well written, I've been listening to them on repeat for a while :)
Cannot wait for this to be turned into a movie.
I just wish I could listen to this book for the first time again.
Was on my TBR since a year! (If I remember it correctly)
Is totally worth the wait. The author as a mortician, answers questions asked by little kids about death. Except for a few questions, they could have been asked by an adult too, out of genuine curiosity.
Pleasantly surprised at how funny the book was!
Finally got a chance to read this beauty.
With no words to guide the story, the artist has a nice way to catch the viewer's attention.
Telling a story just through images is a task which Shaun Tan executes beautifully.
As many, I am sure, must have said before me - I now understand why this book is vehemently recommended.
A must read for those looking to start reading graphic novels.
PS. So lucky to be in a place with a library that has such gorgeous books. So so grateful.
