Stephen Fry is a master at voicing characters!
His perfect transition from an alien to a human is really fun to listen to :)
This book was an absolute joy, and has been on my to read list for quite some time.
I remember watching the movie and falling in love with the bizarre concept introduced, and thouroughly enjoyed Alan Rickman as Marvin :D
Would recommend!
Shit went down in this one, didn't it?
THE book in this series where things take a dark turn and it isn't fun and games anymore.
Turns out, halfway through the book I realize I haven't read goblet of fire. Believe me, am rolling my eyes as well.
Always a pleasure to dive into the magical universe. Barty Crouch Jr's escape from Azkaban story was interesting.
Why does Stephen Fry make Voldemort sound like a rich snob lol.
10 / 10 narration. I think Goblet of Fire is my favorite out of the series because you don't require a backstory to understand this book. A perfect way to introduce a muggle to the wizarding world :)
Hillarious, edgy and downright savage.
Tina Fey straight up roasts a bunch of haters on the internet in the middle of the book.
From her time as a writer on SNL to creating the show 30 Rock, she seems to portray writing a pilot of an episode as an easy job!
Another audiobook that reaffirms, comedians write the best biographies.
Not my cup of tea govnah!
As far as crime thrillers go, this is by FAR the worst one I have read. Granted, his writing style is new to me, but the story just felt so dry, and no good character descriptions, with a very predictable plotline. Not to mention the forced dialogues.
Laura was present in the story for what? eye candy, if you could even call it that? If we remove her, it wouldn't affect the story one bit.
Just awful.
If I didn't own another book by the author, this would have been my last.
Steer clear.
This is meant for children.
Why? because everything goes the protagonist's way.
Ain't nobody gon treat you good all the time Viva. The real world is cruel.
A good story to make your younger cousins listen to. Has fun supporting sounds as well.
Also, every chapter ends and begins with a 10-second jazz piece :)
All in all, a one time listen.
All aboard the nostalgia train!
A great short story collection, for every genre. Re-reading some of these was such a warm and fuzzy feeling! Reminded me of those good old days, when we used to devour those English books the moment they were assigned.
Why?
Because we all love a good story, oh yes we do.
Especially if it's written in a few pages rather than a few hundreds
While reading this one, I could imagine myself physically sitting in a comfortable corner, reading the books which were assigned for the next class, ugh just pure joy.
The new ones were great as well, no harm in reading short story by a new author. The perfect length of prose to check if you actually like the style.
Would totally recommend :)
PS. I was feeling a bit on the cheerier side today, hence the excessive GIFs.
Or a bunch of links in the middle, depending on where you view this :P
“No question now what has happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again: but already it was impossible to say which was which.”
Why haven't I read this book sooner? Just why.
Somewhere between the amazing writing with the detailed imagery and the scary resemblance to our own world, George Orwell brings to light the harsh realities of bureaucracy by comparing freedom of farm animals to freedom of a country's in the most subtle way possible.
It's not surprising why this book is in the list of 100 books to read in a lifetime, because no matter what generation you belong to, it will be relevant.
I'd like to think, Animal Farm is a kid-friendly version of 1984, a lot similar in its manipulation of the masses, minus the brutal violence.
Recommending (or gifting) this book to anyone who'd listen (or accept gifts), till the day I die.
PS. The sheep twist at the end was too much to handle
Thanks to a rainy day, and long queues for your ride to your workplace, Finished this one!
A great narration, Irish accents is soothing to listen to :D
Fast paced story about two sisters, both working on a murder case which could change both their lives.
At times a little emotional, making you feel for the characters.
A little short for my linking! Would have loved to go on listenning to this one for ages. Wouldn't mind lisetting to other books narrated by the same narrator, she was absolutely brilliant, felt like I was living the sory myself.
On to the next one, eh laddie? :p
Archer is a master of his craft, not that it needs saying.
You only need to read a paragraph of Archer's work to truly see how effortless his writing is.
Such good character work, building the story slow and steady, with the correct speed at the right stops, keeping the viewers guessing till the last sentence.
Would be looking forward to the next book in the series(which could be a while)
The last few chapters were fast-paced, jumping between two parallel storylines, cutting off at the right places.
Once his stories have a grip on you, escaping their allure is nearly impossible, making every second away from the book, real torture.
The true mark of a genius.
Funny AF
I only know Ali from her movie, Always be my maybe (sadly), which I loved because it was effortlessly funny.
Only recently I watched her stand up and decided to give her audiobook a go.
Man o man was that a good decision.
From an occasional hard hitting life advise to extremely detailed and gory description of child birth, the book will leave you with fits of laughter.
Her struggle of being a working mother and her husband's selfless readiness to sacrifice his work to take care of their children is heartwarming.
Strongly recommend!
PS : Should we make it a point to listen to autobiographies only written by comedians?
Maybe.
‘In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since. Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, he told me, just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.'
The book starts off with this brilliant line, setting up a base for what the story has in store.
Did not know this was a love story, a tragic one at that.
Will re read for sure.
The story is about one Nathan, who for all the right reasons, refuses to sign a form without reading it, especially when he is been forced to do so, after he has died, and is waiting to be processed, to proceed to the next level of afterlife.
Witty, slap on the knee funny, and just a joy to read.
This guy has a fresh imagination, and just a new perspective on viewing things.
Who knew bureaucracy whould be so important in the afterlife!
Although, to be honest, it gets a teensy bit boring when the city is described, but quickly compensatied for by the next chapter of he most outrageous outcomes.
Would recommend for a light read.
Am not crying, you are.
Maaaaan was this book worth the long wait?
Oh yes it was. Wanted to listen to this for so long! But just couldn't get my hands on it.
Narration is by the brilliant Lin Manuel Miranda.
The book follows the lives of two boys Aristotle and Dante, just two loners, who happen to become the best of friends.
Even though this was meant for a younger audience, age should not be a restriction to listen to this one.
Full of profound ideas, and a story that tugs at your heart strings, this has easily been the top 3 books I've read this year.
Would recommend to listen to the audio book, as it contains some Spanish words, which should be heard in Lin's perfect voice :)
Coming of age story of a girl who grew up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution.
The illustrations are simple and easy to understand, Marjane tells her story vividly.
Its an attempt to show how a country once so prosperous and rich, has become a religiously controlled body, and how its people had come to terms with the changes overnight.
Book wasn't ask nostalgic as I thought it would be, has some very disturbing imagery on war.
Overall an engaging read
Wow! I was blown away.
Even though the duration of the audio book was quite less, it managed to tell a story and conjure up so many emotions!
An audio book which truly gives you an immersive experience. The narration is absolutely brilliant, helped by the brilliant sound design.
Would have loved to listen to a longer version of such a story ??????
Not mesmerising enough, for Murakami's standard.
Why do I keep going back to Murakami? Even after reading a disaster that was After dark?
For his characters.
This one too, has great chracters, but somehow the story wasnt convincing enough for me.
As always, he ends the story just where it should have begun in the first place.
Will take a break from Murakami for a while :)
