Had a hard time getting into this one for some reason, and the plot suffers by comparison to [b:A Week to Be Wicked 11738128 A Week to Be Wicked (Spindle Cove, #2) Tessa Dare https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1321335382s/11738128.jpg 16687336] (which is one of my favorites of all time). I liked Sophie, wish there had been more of her sisters, and didn't really care all that much about King or his drama with his dad. Not a bad book at all, and I liked it for the most part, but I'm glad I got it from the library instead of buying it. (Also, read A Week to Be Wicked if you haven't.)
Loved the world created here, as a sort of meta-response to the holes in Harry Potter's universe. Loved Agatha and Penny, and probably would've loved a book about either of them more. Didn't really buy the main romance for whatever reason - I know this is meant to be the last book in the “series,” so it feels like a lot of the tension/angst/whatever that would've been built up in the earlier books just isn't there. Loved the spells and even enjoyed the plot twist, but overall this wasn't one of my favorites of hers. Perfectly enjoyable, but not something I'll be compelled to reread, I don't think.
Cute, and I love the art, but the stories are so brief and insubstantial it was like reading cotton candy. I don't need huge drama, of course, but some plot would be nice. I may read another book for this challenge, because this one took about 15 minutes. To get a better sense of the characters, especially Puppycat, find the shorts on YouTube. Update 11/30/16: removed from Bookriot Read Harder Challenge, because I read [b:Nimona 19351043 Nimona Noelle Stevenson https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1412626919s/19351043.jpg 27411330] instead and it was a much better fit for the challenge.
I hadn't read her first book or blog, but this was a fun read that made me want to go back and read her other work. I'm not quite sure it counts as a collection of essays, but it was similar to that, and easy to read a little bit at a time.
(Bookriot Read Harder Challenge 2016: #24 Read a book with a main character that has a mental illness.)
Loved the MC, but the plot here is ridiculous. Can't say more without spoilers, but it's over the top and then gets resolved way too easily, in a couple of pages, really. The MC was one of my favorite characters in her other appearances in this quartet, so it's disappointing that this book wasn't as good as I was hoping.
Loved the reading - laughed out loud while driving in a lot of places. Sometimes full-on cackles, even. Deducted a star for the weird interminable story about her alternate-universe Latin teacher self, which was really predictable and got monotonous quickly. Probably read better than it came across in the audio. Loved basically everything else!
Liked it but it didn't blow me away. Rachel is a really well written character but I didn't feel like I had as much insight into Andy - kind of wish he'd been in first-person as well. Some of the minor characters felt a little cartoonish (like Maisie) but I thought they were overall effective. Solid but nothing spectacular.
