This is the first John Saul book I've read. This story reminded me a bit of a Michael McDowell book. No southern gothic but still the same sort of snowballing plot line. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator for the audiobook and I think I would have liked it better had I actually read the book. Overall I liked it but it was nothing mind blowing. I would definitely read another book by Saul.
Another great book by McDowell. A creepy slow burner of a story that ends with a bang. Murder, ghosts and revenge - what more do you need?
I'm kind of on the fence about this one. I really liked Hex by the same author but wasn't as impressed with this one. I had trouble understanding one of the main characters narration. I got used to it eventually but it kind of broke the mood of the book for me. It was too jokey or something. I did like the overall plot idea and metaphor of the mountains but I felt like it kind of dragged. I'd still be willing to try another book by this author.
I've seen most of the movies based on this book but I had never read the book. I decided to listen to it on audible and see how much different it was from the movies. I've never thought of this as a true story and still don't but as a fiction book it is fairly decent. A few differences from the movies but overall very familiar. A decent read.
