I didn't start to like this until about page 200...I wish there was less of the present day buildup and more about Anya's experience during the war. Like the camp/meeting Evan - it was like she lost her family, years went by, she meets Evan then it's over - that part felt super rushed. I wanted more on those years/getting to America/what it was like for her when she got here etc. it would've been 5 stars for me if the last 150 pages were the entire novel

Was gonna rate this 5 stars but legit subtracted one for the ending

I was going to give this 2 stars but then the ending made me cry - I figured being moved to tears made this worthy of another star. I love Kristen Hannah books, but this has been my least favorite of hers by far. For reference, my top 3 are four winds, the great alone and the nightingale. I've enjoyed every book of hers that I've read, even the older stuff, but this has been the worst.

I don't get the hype. This was so predictable. And kind of bad writing?? I'm sad I didn't like this very much! Probably won't be reading anymore of this author.

Really enjoy this - love a creative, messed up story...but it didn't wow me enough to rate it 5 stars. It took a little bit to get into - for the first half of the book, I didn't like the Libby chapters. I was bored and just wanted to know what happened. I agree with other reviews in that I wish the ending was a bit more fleshed out - perhaps trade out some of the Libby chapters for a more detailed ending. But I loved the ending - didn't see it coming at all. Was convinced it was Trey

This was a fantastic book - I don't love science fiction but this was very captivating - especially the last 150ish pages. I can't rate it 5 stars because I like other genres much better and have some minor critiques.

My biggest issue was too much science...I wanted more plot like relationships back home. Idk why this was such a big plot hole for me but I wanted some mention of Rylands family...like he just left and then stayed on Erid forever with no mention of this - even a line would've helped plug this hole for me!!!

And don't get me started on the lack of expletives in the expletive forward phrases...like please just pick a different way to say gosh darn if you're gonna say gosh darn. Or the heck with it...please

Would've been 5 stars if there was an actual discussion about what happened to Alina's parents - I wanted to know whether they actually went to Auschwitz. Even saying that Alice and her family were planning on going there during their trip to Poland at the end would've been enough. I'm also annoyed there was no discussion about Julietta's experience being in Poland - like she is the direct offspring of Tomas and it would've been nice to have something about Amelia and her meeting. This book was really good but I wish they would've delved into slightly more details on this important stuff (and less about Wade being an asshole)
