Quite a useful book. Gave me my new structure for organisation. I no longer have reading notes like before, but I do have notes of a more household nature. And this PARA system is very useful for that. I have read this book before and I will most likely come back to it again to refresh the principles. A little rambling in places, but very useful nonetheless.
Gives a glimpse into life in Kerala in the 1800s. Feels like a different world. But then people are the same. There are the greedy, conniving ones, the weak, unreliable ones, the strong, morally upright ones, the movers and shakers, the also-lived, the ultra rich, the ultra poor. Everything is different, and yet everything is the same 😒
Must be one of the first books I bought. Such a treasure. Interesting story too. Love that Ned is a part of the stories. Quite a complicated plot, but everything tied in so well at the end. Love even the crispy brown old pages. Also found my old bookmark in here, real nostalgic trip down memory lane. A quick read too 😍
Reading the comic version was a kind of cheat, but I do want to mix up my reading. I already had this one, so decided not to make another purchase. Story is nice, pure fiction, of course, but made almost believable. Comic version also helped to make it an instant read. The characters are so old-worldly, it's almost funny. Want to read the full version someday.
Awesome book. The philosophical chats between Calvin and his imaginary tiger, the exasperation of “Mom” and “Dad”, the fights with Susie, the exploration trips, the wild, wild imagination of Calvin, the Superhero tales, the inventive games they play, the character-building camping trips, the dry wit and the great drawing!!🤩🤩
Strange book. Too hodge-podge. There's some romance, some history - that I like. But the entire plot is inconsistent. And there's a ton of unnecessary vulgarity in it. Towards the end, the story turned almost evangelical / biblical! Can't imagine why it is bestseller. Did not like it, won't be continuing the series, either.
Very very useful book. So glad I found it. Lots of practical advice on how to live well and live with grace. Being old money is not luck, it is a frame of mind. A way of life really -being frugal, graceful, savvy, kind and true. Lots and lots to learn from this one, crisp and to the point. One of my most favourite books of all time. Would highly recommend this book.
Interesting book. The conclusion was nearly unimaginable. Even though I'd read it before, I'd forgotten. Complicated plot, really. Lots of characters with their own characteristics. But masterful approach by the author to arrive at the conclusion. I still don't like Poirot as much as Miss Marple, though.
One of the worst books I've come across in recent years. Very boring, very crazy, very complicated, very unhinged. Not for me at all. Might have received awards and star ratings, but I found it unbelievably tiring. I read a comment somewhere that the author was “high” while writing this and I must say I do not disagree.
This is indeed a very motivating read. It is abundantly clear what it takes to be an Olympic champion - lots of grit, lots of preparation, lots of dedication, lots of support and lots and lots of hard, hard work. A will to persevere. A will to succeed. And that's just it. I cannot, for the life of me, enjoy this book. I feel like I've been to the pool and back, utterly exhausted. I'm buzzing through this book, just because I cannot wait to finish it. I simply cannot appreciate the passion for the sport. And the author keeps jumping back and forth in time; it is so confusing. I'm reading this book as part of The 52 Book Club's Summer Reading Challenge - would not have even thought of taking up this book, otherwise.
