I was worried that the length of this book would be an issue. But, not at all. The story was gripping enough for the pages to fly by; I was quite engrossed in the tale. Not knowing much about the actual historical facts was not a problem either; in fact, I think that helped me enjoy the tale even more. I am generally against the forced inclusion of new-age tropes, but in this book, everything seemed to flow so well together. I now see that I’m not anti-anything as a rule: all I want is a well-told story, whatever the themes/tropes. Loved this book.
I read this book on and off and I think that might have impacted my enjoyment quite a bit. It was a cozy mystery kind of book and I ought to have enjoyed it more - but I didn’t. I was bored in places, not sure why. It is still a good story; I might read other books in the series, if it works for some future readathons.
A novel filled with computer programming - That part of it took me back to my college days. A story about the people who build games - I have never read a book with this theme - that was the best, the most interesting and most novel part of this book for me. Nonetheless I was extremely bored in the beginning and frequently in between - tempted to DNF several times. It became easier to read as it went on, though. The author seems to be trying too hard to include all the woke tropes in this one book; that wasn’t necessary at all.
A great book. I have read the comic version from the Illustrated Classics earlier, but reading the original book feels more complete somehow. It was a short book, too and that made it so much easier. The journey of Buck from being a sheltered and pampered house dog to a wild, killer leader of the wolf pack is both sad and empowering at the same time. The author manages to turn a tale of true tragedy and suffering into one of endurance and survival. Highly recommend!
I liked this book very much indeed. The story was short and sweet and very well paced. But. I definitely do not like steamy scenes in my books - purely a personal preference. Of course, maybe I should not have picked up a book that advertises a reverse harem. My fault, I know. But I'm still glad I read this book. It was a quick, easy read and if it weren't for the above mentioned scenes, it would have been a 5-star read, too.
Yikes! I feel physically disoriented. A mistake to have even started reading this book. I am NOT a fan of these high-brow, illogical books that are a pain to read and understand. Some parts were relatively all right, but that's far too few and far between. I must remember to read reviews and check for unhinged writing alerts. Glad I didn't buy this book. The last time I read and hated a book so much was with A Hundred Years of Solitude. Readers who enjoyed that kind of “dream-like half-crazed” books might enjoy this one too.
I do like the story very much. The new twist in the tale - a much more interesting mml - is much nicer. I also love that the mfl has now come into her power very much. And yet, I hate that the author feels the need to insert one unnecessary chapter describing in cringe-worthy detail their bedroom scenes. That entire chapter could've been done away with so easily; it wouldn't have affected the story in any way. IMHO, the plot is good, the characters are good, but that one chapter takes away the charm quite a bit.
Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!
I had read this book nearly two decades back and had almost forgotten about this book. Of course, some of the basic concepts of this book have stayed with me forever. It is one of my foundation texts for finance planning. The details and number crunching can be a bit dry, but it is nonetheless important to be informed. An OG book in getting the right mindset about your finances - Pick and choose, though, as the author himself warns.
Wow! The ending was superb! There were quite a few surprises in the last chapters but the ending was chef's kiss! Really liked this book. Definitely reading the rest of the series. I read this book as part of The52BookClub readalong - might not have thought of picking this book otherwise. A great read! Highly recommend.
This book is progressing very slowly for me and it has put me into a serious reading slump. Instead of DNF-ing the book, I decided to flip through the pages quickly, checking the titles, sub-titles and random passages that interested me. It is clear that there is a lot of information, techniques and ideas jam-packed in there. The writing style, perhaps, is not for me, though. As other readers have mentioned, there is too much “padding” and I fully agree. A condensed version of this book might have been more palatable.
A long book, but a very gripping one. It is a strange land governed by strange rules and practices and strange powers. It is complicated, yet interesting. There is a lot of politics, which I usually detest, but not so much in this case. A great book overall, I will definitely continue reading this series.
This book sure cured me out of a reading slump I'd been in for a while. Each chapter is a short article on one specific Harry Potter incident/character/topic that is explored more thoroughly with additional back stories. I loved it, and I'm glad I bought this book. Now, on to volume 2 of the series 😀
A very gripping story. Sara is a young teenager, whose experiences unusual changes and also finds her long lost family - so much to take in, for sure. Loved the quotes in this book; mostly, it is written in the form of a journal from Sara's mother, but there were others as well. Wonderful tidbits on how to live better: every teenager ought to know these, I feel. I do feel invested enough to read the rest of the series.
The book lists 100 House Rules by The Nester. I read the entire book in one go and that was a little boring after a while. It is filled with a treasure trove of ideas but I feel that this is a book that could be read by opening to a random page and trying to implement that idea. A few ideas were completely novel, and I definitely enjoyed the author's perspective on decorating.
