This was not Hemingway's best book by any stretch of the imagination. I am somewhat of a Hemingway fan, and this book was clearly not planned out at all before he started writing it. You will spend multiple chapters at a location or on a boat before it has even been described, you will have characters and their stories brought into the book for no apparent reason, and the ending doesn't tie much together at all.
I wouldn't suggest anyone start their Hemingway reading with this novel. It is a novel that can be finished and you can pick out interesting viewpoints or intriguing quotes throughout the book, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
I would tell you all the reasons I wasn't overly impressed with this book, but I have forgotten the reasons. Just kidding, it was a decent book, but it certainly dragged on.
I personally would only suggest this book to people who have never read another book on memory or memory competitions before. If you have read other memory related books, this one could be a bit of a snooze.
This short story could have been a great novel. The concept is fun in the sense that we are all being controlled by aliens and the movie couldn't put all the details in that a book could deliver. An interesting 10 minute read.
Honestly, it was a great book but it would have been significantly better if it didn't list every movie Bill ever made with a recap of each movie. That section of the book was painful to read, and almost seem like it was there to fill out the book.
Other than that, it was a fantastic read.
