When nine hikers go missing, no one is worried - at first. But as days pass, it becomes clear that something has gone wrong. What isn't understood at the time is how wrong things could go, and the many decades that would go by without answers for the families.
As each family begins pressing for more information, there are many theories that being to crop up about what could have caused nine, healthy and experienced skiers to have such a cataclysmic accident, leaving no one alive. It seemed as though each of them were scared out of their minds as they ran into the frigid cold of the Russian winter.
But what went wrong? It seems that they knew what they were up against, had taken every precaution they could, and yet, their tent was still where it had been left, with huge gashes torn through the back of it.
Did someone attack them? Did they discover something they shouldn't? These are just a few of the questions that have plagued the cold case. No one knew. Answers were not forthcoming, and it seemed as though the government wanted to make the entire thing disappear, as quietly as possible.
I enjoyed this read. One of the areas I appreciated most was each of the theories being explored, and explained away. What the final theory was, actually makes sense, and I can see how that would have affected each of the persons on the mountainside that night. -- No -- I am not going to tell you the theory, you are going to have to read this book for yourself, and undertake the journey to not only understand these nine souls that were taken too soon, but the journey that the author undertook to discover as much as he could about what happened, and what could have gone so wrong.
Highly enjoyable, although a sad read in areas.
When two teenage girls go missing, it is assumed by many, including law enforcement that they just left town and ran away. But decades will pass before the shocking conclusion of this story will be reached.
Pam Jackson and Sherri Miller were ordinary teens, just looking for a party that was going on outside of town. After stopping to visit one of the girls relatives in the hospital, they headed out to find the party but were unable to locate it. They asked directions, and began following another car toward where the party was, but the other car lost sight of them, assuming that they had either taken a wrong turn, or turned around.
As the years passed, there were many suspects, and the police went to drastic lengths to find who was responsible, and their methods were later critiqued heavily.
This was a riveting story, with several twists and turns that kept the reader engaged and waiting to see what was going to happen next. This was a heartbreaking story, and while I am glad it was able to be solved, the decades that it took caused the family a lot of grief and uncertainty.
Great way to introduce young readers to science! Where does water come from? How does it move? All these questions and more are answered in this book! It was easy to read and understand, allowing even younger aged readers to easily digest the information. There is a fun activity at the end, along with a glossary for any terms that the reader might not be familiar with.
In this book, the author takes us on a journey unlike many true crime novels. Here, each case is tackled with a precision unlike most. There is a clinical study done, a science that is not usually found. As a profiler, the author is able to look past some of the more circumstantial aspects of the cases, and look at the deeper motive, the unseen pieces that often allude others.
I was fascinated with this book, and the way that each case was broken down, analyzed, and then presented. It was hard for me to put this one down and walk away.
For those who enjoy true crime, and a bit more of the psychological science behind the perpetrator, then this is one book that will appeal to you! Highly recommend!
Fabulous as always! Ron Ripley never disappoints, and this book was just as awesome as the rest.
A pair of seemingly innocent sunglasses is causing havoc, the ghost wants to travel, and a cold-blooded murderer at the same time. She uses those around her to kill.
Shane is working to end her little game, but he is running into some roadblocks, and this ghost is pretty tough.
Great read! If you love Ron Ripley's books, this one will delight you!
When Shane Ryan was drawn into underground fighting that was going on between humans and ghosts he had no idea what he was truly getting involved in. But as the series continues, he is hunting Lazarus, trying to determine how he could absorb the ghosts, and grow stronger.
With a ghostly sidekick with a strange side, Shane searches for Lazarus but is tipped off about a town that was destroyed. Every person was killed by an invisible force, and Shane knows that somehow Lazarus is behind it.
Absolutely loved this book! It was amazing!
When two deaths rock a small village, they are shocked. But when a third person turns up dead, this time murdered, the gossips are out in force. Roger Ackroyd, a wealthy member of the community, is seemingly murdered behind a locked door, and no one can figure out who would have wanted him dead.
As clues begin to emerge, blackmail becomes one of the apparent motives for one of the previous deaths, but how does that play into the death of Mr. Ackroyd, and why?
Detective Poirot, although retired, is asked to look into the case, and as he begins to dig, every person in the house seems to have a motive.
This book - just wow! I could not stop! I had to know who the killer was, and in the end, I was almost surprised at the culprit. I had some suspicions, but they seemed to be pointing every other way but to the actual killer. I absolutely LOVED this one!
Female serial killers are not new - but talking about them hasn't been as prevalent as some of their male counterparts. This was an amazing book, laying out some of the female serial killers. I was familiar with many, but there were a few that I wasn't aware of.
Great overall, and enjoyable! For those who enjoy true crime, this will be a good read.
For those who are fans of the Wars of the Roses - this is a must-read! Paul Kendall takes us on a journey through the key players, locations, and so much more! This book contains amazing details, and some pretty fabulous illustrations as well.
I look forward to seeing this book in print!
Thank you to the publisher, Pen and Sword, for an advanced copy of this book.
When Janet begins going after Dan's kids, everything begins to turn upside down. The plan that her employer has to take over the town is beginning to unravel, and Dan is standing in the way. As the town continues to experience strange deaths, the police are stumped as to what is going on.
Great book! Thoroughly enjoyed this one!
Dan Tate is just trying to get through each day, and forget the horror he witnessed years prior at the high school. He is the caretaker at the local cemetery, but there are a few ghosts hanging out, and one in particular has taken a liking to Dan.
When people start dying, the police are baffled. They have not had a murder in ages, and to have more than two, raises concerns on who might be killing those in town.
Great read! This is going to be a fabulous series!
