Can I just say, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! It was one of those, “I cannot put this down until I finish.”
When it comes to true crime, this is one of the best ones that I have read. The entire case, with a disappearing doctor, a mistress, and a missing wife.
Throughout the course of the trial, there are several discrepancies that come up, and there are several opinions that are expressed throughout the book. But the level of research done and the amazing retelling of this story kept me intrigued throughout the entire book.
Well done and very well written!
I love reading books about wildlife, and this was a fun one to read through! Get to know Ringed Seals better than you ever thought with this amazing book!
From their young, to diet, living, and predators that eat the seal, this book gives you a great insight into the lives of the Ringed Seal.
Perfect for young readers, and adult readers who want a jumping-off point! I will be sharing this one with my boys!
Perfection in a book!
I absolutely LOVED this book! Archaeology has always fascinated me, and after spending some time on a dig in Israel, I could not pass up this book when it came around.
Jerusalem has always had a varied past, and this book brings about the different religions that make up the center of Jerusalem, and the many controversies that have surrounded some of the digs that have gone on.
Andrew Lawler brings a delicious history of the times, excavations, and unrest that has run through the streets of Jerusalem, and sheds more light on the different areas of controversy.
An absolute must-read for history lovers! You will not be disappointed at all!
This book is one that is going to make you sit back and want to cheer for these brave men.
Get to know the men who disappeared over New Guinea and the search for answers that has spanned more than 80 years.
The author does a great job in fleshing out each of the men, and their stories.
I highly recommend this read, it was one that could be difficult to read, but so very worth it. History lovers will enjoy this one.

What a load of rubbish! I started this book, put it down, came back to it hoping that it would get better, put it down again, tried it again, and decided that this book was one of the WORST I have ever read.
I love all things Ancient Egypt - and this book in no way should be on the shelves. Errors abound, the authors biases (I am independent, so whatever), come through clearly in this book, and her analysis of the kings mentioned in this book? Find someone else to read.
Whatever this author is going through, she poured out a lot of malice in this book - and I will never read anything by this author again.
Highly disappointed, in what I thought was going to be a fabulous book, and something that I was excited to read.

I really enjoyed reading through some of the myths that came from the medieval times, as well and digging back into history with this fun book!
I highly recommend this one to those who enjoy reading, and who might want to dip their toes into the medieval history of England!
Each person is different, and the author does a great job of pointing out how each person has their strengths and weaknesses in this book.
We often think that we have to be good at everything, but in this book, youth learn that it is okay to not be great at everything.
Little Mole Goes to School is a cute little story, and perfect for younger readers - especially right before they head off to the school year!
I gave this book three stars, but would usually give it two. I bumped to three based on the fact that while some of the information was interesting - I did not enjoy the narrator (the author), and the book was rather jumpy. Audiobooks allow me to listen while I am working, cleaning, or other items that need to be done. I enjoy them, and listen to them often. Maybe a different narrator would have made a difference... I don't know
Now for the review..
History is one of my favorite areas. I read, live, breathe, and teach it. When I saw this book, and that it had an audio version, I thought it was perfect! I could “Read” while I was working. I just COULD NOT get into the book! As I was listening to the audio version of this book, I found myself wishing over and over that I had just requested a copy of the book to read. I might have enjoyed it more.
When we think of heiresses, we want the gossip, the background, the stories of these women. I felt much of it was glossed over, and it read more like a research paper than a book. It seemed as though the author had different trains of thought as she would jump through different names, leaving the person listening a little confused. I stopped listening while I was working, hoping that if I paid more attention, it would be easier to follow. Nope.
As I was listening, I found myself jotting down names that I could go and find more information. I was disappointed with some of the lack of background on some of the young women.
While there is some great research in this book, it just felt disjointed, and not fully thought out. There were too many choppy portions, and some of it just felt rather dry.
I may try to find a copy of this book later - to see if I enjoy it more just reading through it, but we shall see. Great idea for a book, just needs some smoothing to be completely seamless.
Every now and then you read a book that makes you just sit back and go “OH MY GOODNESS.” I am reviewing this, even though I have not fully finished the book - the link expired before I could finish reading. While I was wanting to read more - it was hard to read on the computer after spending hours each day in meetings. I have this on my list to buy when it releases.
I have always enjoyed the Civil War, and finding books about battles in the area where I live are just that much better - as I can share the history with my kids as we walk the sites.
The amount of research done by Jeffry Wert was amazing, and I was blown away by the flow of the book, the ease of the read, and the information that was presented.
The battle for Spotsy Courthouse was one that was brutal and bloody- and through the portion of the book that I was able to read before it expired, I was truly hooked. Using a variety of sources, and reconstructing the battle itself, this book is one that all Civil War history buffs are going to want to add to their shelves.
I look forward to purchasing and finishing the read! This is one that I will be recommending my students pick up for their book reviews.

Richard Chase became one of the worst serial killers that the United States has seen. It was not the body count, but the brutality that he inflicted on his victims that put him toward the top. While he had some mental issues, he knew right from wrong, and tried to cover his tracks.
This book was one that is going to stay with me a while. The graphic descriptions of the crime scenes rather got to me, and they usually don't. But these were different. These brutal and horrific crimes are among some of the worst that I have ever read or studied.
Richard Chase was convicted of his crimes, although his lawyer tried to plead insanity. But there were too many conflicting areas for him to be deemed insane. He tried to cover his tracks to and from crime scenes (even parking farther away so as to not have his car recognized).
Overall, this was a great read, but caution on the crime scene descriptions, they will turn even the strongest stomach!
There are so many interesting and cold missing cases, that it can be hard to put them all into one place. But this book pulls together some of the most fascinating and interesting cold cases of all time.
Without A Trace follows several different cases, talking through the different areas of each one, and what could have happened. While we may never know with all of them, some of them are able to be solved - someone always knows something. It is just sometimes a matter of time before the truth comes out.
Grab this book and dive into some of histories most enduring cold cases. Check them out, mull them over, and keep the history alive with these cold cases!!
Timothy Venning has done it again! This was an amazing book, and I enjoyed reading through the stories that were contained in this book. There was a tremendous amount of research done, and the stories kept you engaged, leaving even those with those who love history learning something new!
I have been impressed by what I have read by Mr. Venning, and I very much look forward to seeing what he comes out with in the future.

Learn about the Aztec's daily way of life, warfare, food, religion, and so much more! Each chapter breaks down the information with an easy to read format, yet even adults are going to find this book fun to read through! The illustrations are well done, and you can test your knowledge of what you learned in the book with a fun quiz at the end!
But this book takes a different look at the Aztecs as well. Some of their art is still very important in Mexico today. Their influence and importance has not waned - even after their collapse.

One has to have a love/hate relationship with Custer.
On one hand, you have someone who made a name for himself - making a mark during the Civil War, and his eventual death on the battlefield at Little Bighorn.
On the other - you have someone who epitomizes laziness - literally doing the least that he could to make it where he felt he should be, was not one to follow orders (hence the Little Bighorn fiasco), and a real contempt for some.
Good book, great for those who are wanting to understand Gen. Custer, with a well-rounded look at his life, and death.
There are some books that make you sit back and think, Oh My! “A Taste For Poison” was a book that I could not put down. From the start, I was hooked. When we think poison, we usually think of how they have been used for horrid deeds. While that is true, there were other uses - and sometimes it was misguided.
Neil Bradbury takes us on a journey through the history of poisons. From their medicinal uses to make-up, wallpaper, and so much more - murder always comes in. While some of the poisons started out innocently enough, there is always someone that is going to figure out how to use it for nefarious means. I love that he takes you from the start to the finish, without unneeded information. The uses for medicine and murder really intrigued me, I could have gone for a book twice this length! I was not ready for it to end! The information flows smoothly, with background information, the names of those who used the poison for ill will, and ends with forensic breakthroughs, and high-profile cases.
Every single one of the poisons that were discussed were ones that I was familiar with, but I did not know their backgrounds. From accidental discoveries to advances in medical fields - I was amazed at the varied differences in the formulas, what makes it deadly, and if there are any antidotes available.
Perfection in a book! Grab this one now, you will not be disappointed at all! I look forward to reading more from this author.

Cute little story of an Axolotl, who is the only one of the eggs laid to hatch. He makes friends with some of the sea creatures around him, but as they grow and leave, he becomes lonely.
I enjoyed the imagination that went into this book (especially watching the movies on the cell phones underwater), and his eventual finding of a friend after a wave washes him into a new body of water.

The author of this book takes us on a journey, one told through letters, of his family from WWII.
This book was one of resilience, determination, and the strength of a family that was doing their best to survive during the war, and the reign of terror during the war.
This was an interesting read, and while it was a hard read in parts, it was well done a great overall book. I struggled through parts of it, but persevered and finished it out.
