“Be Strong and Courageous For The Lord Is With You....” Joshua 1:9
“The 21” by Martin Mosebach is a heartbreaking story about the Coptic Martyrs who were beheaded by Isis, back in February 0f 2015. But this book goes beyond just the story that you can see. He gives these men their names, their history, and expands on their faith.
Coptic Christians are constantly under threat for their faith. There are dangers on a daily basis but these brave souls have put their faith in God, and trust him through everything. For the 21 brave men who were executed, simply for being Christian, their faith supported them through the end of their lives. They took a stand, and they were killed for their faith. Martin Mosebach is helping their story and courage to live on - and to be shared with many others.
Martin Mosebach does a fabulous job of bringing this story, and the story of the Coptic Christians to light. While reading this book, I went through the gambit of emotions. The stories are heartbreaking, and the photos allow you to see these men as who they were before the video was released.
If you are interested in history, then this book is a MUST read. The struggles, the triumphs, and more are lined out. I gained a better understanding of the Coptic Christians through this book.
Kara Hart has been living with loss her entire life. When her mother walked out one day, never to return, it scarred Kara in ways she could not understand. After the accident which claims the life of her husband, she is back staying with her father and trying to recover some semblance of her life before the accident.
But her father has a few surprises up his sleeve as well. He is determined to sell the company he owns, and buy an older home, starting a new course in his life. Kara is surprised but goes along with her father to help him out, and she continues to heal from the accident. But when she gets there, she gets more than what she bargained for, and might just find the start of a new life where she least expects it.....
Wildflower House might be more a chance for Kara to get her life back on track, than her father's dreams of long ago.
This was a great read! I could not put it down! The story weaves and binds together so many emotions. Love, friendship, renewal, anger, redemption... there is so much here - and more.
Richard II was quite a figure! Crowned at the age of 10, he found himself facing down his own countrymen at a young age. During the time of his minority, the country was restless. He faced down Wat Tyler and his band of rebels. But this would not be the only time that he found himself besieged - and all before he was able to govern on his own.
Richard II is a figure that most tend to look over. Starting his reign at a young age, many tend to want to overlook what he was able to accomplish, flying in the face of what his advisors wanted to do. He wanted a country that was peaceful and prosperous. Those who were in power, however, wanted more. They sought to remove the king from his friends and allies, murdering those who got in their way.
This book was fabulous! I was hooked from the start, and could not put it down! Mercedes Rochelle has done it again with a book that not only brings history to life but breathes a fresh perspective into a figure that has fallen largely from the pages of our history books. Grab this book now, you will not be sorry!
Margaret Tudor was born into a world of promise and wealth. As the oldest daughter of the reigning King of England, her prospects were very bright indeed. As she grew, she became a bargaining chip on the marriage market. During her youth, she would have been given some education, but women were not as highly educated as men - which was to come back to haunt her in later years.
After her marriage to King James of Scotland, she envisioned a long life as the reigning queen of Scotland. But after her husband's death on the battlefield at Flodden, she was the regent for her infant son, with a stipulation in his will that should she remarry, she would no longer be the regent. What happened next, were years of strife and insecurity for the young widowed queen. She remarried in secret, to a man who was despised among many in Scotland. After her sons were taken from her, and the discovery of the infidelity of her second husband, she pleaded with her brother continually for help, but it was slow in coming. After divorcing her second husband, and taking a third - the decline in her life continued. None of her husbands were faithful, but the last two were interested only in what they could take from her, and what material benefits were in it for them.
Margaret was born with a lot of promise, but her life was full of sadness and much of it spent in relative poverty.
I enjoyed this book. While much of what we know about medieval women come from the accounts of their husbands, fathers, and brothers, it is possible to get a glimpse into their lives, especially with the insistence of Margaret Beaufort to record and document practices and “regulations” for the royal family. Well worth the read! One of the best historical books I have read in a while.
The world of the Cheyenne is changing. Morning Dove, the adopted daughter of Chief Black Kettle is learning more of the White Man's world. Speaking their language is important to her father, so she is doing her best. As the Spirit of an old Medicine Man begins to contact her, she is frightened. She does not know what he wants from her, but she does not feel up to the task. There are others that are better suited to that. After the massacre at Sandy Creek, her tribe is moved, and there fate begins to change again.
She is pulled in two different directions. She wants to be free, and she wants to do the best she can for her people. When another massacre occurs, she is left without her father and mother – and her bother is part of the Dog Soldiers, which could mean his death at any time.
Clinton is looking for adventure. After the Civil War has ended, he decided to go back into the Army to find himself and regain his purpose. After heading back out west, he meets Morning Dove, and is taken with her. He finds himself wanting to protect her, and at the same time, falling in love with her. But to do so would go against everything, including his commission in the Cavalry. He must decide if he is going to follow his heart, or his career...
Interesting book! An interesting adventure that spans the plains of the American West. I loved the references to Fort Hays, as I lived there for a time while growing up.
When it comes to getting kids to read, you have to find something that is going to hold their attention. Attention spans are shorter these days. When I try to read to my kids, it can be maybe ten minutes before I lose them completely - depending on the book. There are some that we have been able to sit and read together for longer periods. When you find cute little books that are entertaining and fun, you jump at them! Bryony Supper has created a little series for kids, and they fulfill everything! Cute little stories, lessons in manners, and friends helping each other out.
In the Sorry Sticks, the Pasta Kidz learn what it means to say sorry and really mean it. When one of the Pasta Kidz gets a Big Ticket, they must learn what they need to do to resolve the ticket. But they cannot figure it out alone. They call on their friends to help. Together, they know what needs to be done, and make sure that everyone knows! Where would we be without our friends!?
I can't recommend this book enough! My boys and I read it together, and when it was finished, my youngest made the observation that sorry is a term that is used a lot, but it never really gets the meaning that it should. He said that many people say it, but don't really mean it. For a young kid, that is a big revelation. If you are looking to get your younger kids some great books, then you need to check out the Pasta Kidz series. Like I said earlier, you get fun, manners, and learn a little something in the process! I look forward to reading even more from Bryony Supper and the Pasta Kidz. Each book is a grand new adventure. We have read the first two books a couple of times now!
We deemed this book to have 5/5 stars! Thank you Bryony Supper for the copy of the book! We look forward to each new adventure!
Grateful Grace is a story about a little girl who sees the good in everything around her. While her friends and those in her community complain about different things, Grace is always thankful for what she sees, and what she had. Using your perspective to see what is in front of you, and being appreciative of what you have - not always what you wish you had, is a great lesson for kids. I highly recommend this book!
This is a great story for kids! Showing them that while everything might not be perfect, there IS always something to be thankful for. I read this with my boys, and we enjoyed the story!

Scarlett DeHaven has been in and out of Nashville for as long as she can remember, which isn't much. She is also in and out of the bottle and popping prescription pills whenever possible. After a stint in a rehab clinic, she is ready to get her life back on track and begins looking for a place to call home. When a real estate agent recontacts her, she buys a mansion in the Shenandoah Valley and begins to make plans to open a Bed and Breakfast, while she continues her music writing career.
But as she gets into the house, strange things begin to happen. Voices, noises, and a strange woman in black that seems to appear and disappear as quickly as she came. When her friend Stella comes to visit, the noises intensify, and soon there is more going on that just a whisper. Rumors of a vampire colony, secret tunnels, and mysterious deaths within the house all make for one wild ride that may kill anyone that sets foot on the property. Scarlett may not make it out of the house alive....
This book was fabulous! I sat and read through it in one sitting! I could not put it down. I had to know what happened. The backstory was great, and London did a great job of weaving all the different parts of the story together. If you enjoy stories about vampires, and things that make you jump in the night, then you have to check this one out! It made the hair on my arms stand on end more than once!
The French Revolution turned Europe upside down. If monarchs could be deposed in one country, what made other monarchs feel safe on their thrones?
While some of the effects of the Revolution can be argued to still be rippling today - I felt the author really missed the point on this book. He repeats himself - A LOT, and that can take away from the academic viewpoint of the book. For someone who is just starting out in history, then this might be a great read, but for those who are in academia, and wanting to get something with a little more meat, I would not recommend this book. The sources used were good, I just felt let down with the book.
Alcohol has always been present where there are soldiers. This is a given. However, the many uses for spirits might surprise some, especially when it comes to the Civil War, and the ravages that were ripped through the country.
I LOVED This book! I have added this to my approved book list for students to read and use. Love the history and little tidbits that were thrown in, which made the read more enjoyable, and a good laugh or two!
Tiny T-Rex wants to give his friend a hug, but his arms are to tiny. He goes to ask those closest to him for advice and gets a lot of different answers. In the end, he learns how to hug his friend and make them feel happy again.

This books was FABULOUS! I was hooked from the first page.
There are a few things that I would draw those who are interested in reading this book to:
1. If you have a weak stomach, rethink reading this. There are details in there that can make you queasy. I also do not recommend eating before reading for the above reasons.
2. There is a lot of terminology that many might not be acquainted with.
Those were my cons - the rest is pure praise. I could not get enough of this book, and I really wanted more when it was finished. I found myself wanting more - more information, more investigation (I can never get enough of this) - looking for and finding the cause of death.... and she pulls all her information together with ease and fact.

Do your kids love history?? Then YOU HAVE TO GET THIS BOOK!! It was amazing! My son and I read through this together, as he is studying Ancient Egpyt this year, and the information was fabulous! Oh my goodness! Get a little bit of everything - and learn more about what life was like for Egyptians thousands of years ago! The pictures were amazing, and the facts laid out in an easy to understand way. As a history teacher, this book is well thought out and perfect for using with kids to get them interested in history. As a parent, it was a great way to help my son get more information on a subject he was already studying. He loved the hieroglyphics and being able to practice writing his name in another language.
We are looking forward to making the recipes that were in the book, and trying some ancient treats!
Get to know these animals in an entirely different light!

The FBI is on the hunt for a serial killer, and this one is losing control faster than anyone cares to admit...
Brandon Fisher and the BAU are on the trail of a killer. This serial killer abducts and holds his victims for three days before he then then kills them by beheading them. The number 3 figures into everything that the killer does - three days after they are released from prison. Three days before they are killed. But he begins to make mistakes. Little mistakes that lead to larger mistakes. He seems to be devolving so quickly that the team seems to be two steps behind him at all times. A seemingly unrelated issue might just be the break the team needs to crack the case wide open.
As the team races to find a missing woman in the Sunshine State, there are other cases that seem to connect to the serial killer, but the trails have gone cold, and the pieces are not quite fitting together as easily as they should.
I enjoyed this book! If you like a good mystery that will leave you scratching your head to put the pieces together, then you need to read this book! On The Count Of Three will have you trying to figure out who the killer is before another person goes missing, and the trail goes cold again.

Craig T. Feigh brings a delightful story to life with his computer related characters. What a great way for kids to learn a little more about the intricacies of the computer world!
I read this story aloud to my boys, and they loved it! Vi and Russ are two of the notorious characters, and if you are not careful, they can get you into a lot of trouble! Little Bit and Big Byte are looking for some fun at the beach, but they just might find more than they bargained for!
Absolutely delightful, and a fun read! If your kids are interested in computers, or you are looking to introduce them to the world of technology, then you need to start here. The illustrations are fabulous, and this book held my kids attention the entire way through! They wanted to know what happened next! Definitely looking forward to the next book by Mr. Feigh!
Who didn't have a Teddy Bear when they were younger (or still) that they didn't love? The story of the Teddy Bear comes to life in this little book! President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear cub, and the subsequent cartoon about the incident led to the creation of one of the nations most beloved toys!
This book was so adorable, and a fun read! I loved it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kids Can Press Publishers for the advanced e-copy of the book!
What would you do if an octopus followed you home!? Would you want to keep it? Would your parents let you keep it? This cute little story shows one little boy how sea creatures and humans both need different things to survive. The little boy in the story wants to ensure that his new pet has everything it needs, but there is still something missing..

The Pasta Kidz are learning patience in this book. Good things take time, and doing it right the first time can save time in the long run. When you slow down and follow the directions, instead of rushing through and hoping for the best, then you get better results.
Loved this book!
Ugly the Moose really hated his name. He had friends, but he wanted to be more a part of what was going on. He was too big to fit into the house that all his friends were having a party at. Poppa Bear had slept through getting the tree and there was nothing to be done. It would take to long to get to the tree.
But Ugly has an idea, and he might just save Christmas for all of his friends!!
Great book! I really enjoyed reading this and look forward to reading it to my sons.
