DNF at 38%. Bored 95% of the time and after slogging through just over a third I still have not grown to care for what happens to Alice and Peter.

I don't think I've ever read a male main character like this - I loved it!
Reluctant lovers (which I normally find annoying) but this was so well done and the characters so relatable I just loved the pair of them together.
The humour in this book surprised me too - particularly from another paladin in the group.

too quirky for me!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

At first the world and magic system captured me.. made me want to keep on reading. Then came the gradual realisation of the ugly truth of it all. A mirror to our own capitalist society and its players.

Idk.. maybe I expect too much after the end of crown of midnight. Nothing really happens for the first 3/4 of the book. The last 20% sorta makes up for it.. maybe. Undecided whether to continue.

I loved this so much that I'm sad it's finished

I'm now yearning for an unintentionally hilarious but endearing gargoyle best friend. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Gothic, mystery, lore, adventure, trials, unique magic system (not my fave but cool) and the romance whew. Moody, snarky male main with her being his only weakness, touch her and die energy ugh. A little salty about the ending though

Had to summon all the will for the first 40% of this book, the writing style and multiple POVs takes a bit of getting used to. Was it worth it? Yes yes beautiful conclusion, the reveal of the intricate connections between characters was satisfying. I still had some questions at the end, though nothing a quick Reddit search couldn't explain.

Wow what a rideee. This was in a different league to book 1 and I'm so glad I persevered.

I did not expect to love this as much as I do. Roman and Iris made me swoon in the best way. Slow, romantic burn done right. On to book two ASAP!
