I received an ARC of Starflight at NYCC15, this is a lazy review.
+ Character interactions, banter, comradery- Characters don't feel like they have unique voices, too similar to one another+ Character development, especially Doran's development- Tropeish backstories+ Slow-ish romance development- A bit too focused on the romance towards the end- Unsatisfying ending, felt like it was missing something to tie it all together. Perhaps the companion novel will solve that problem ;-)
Dan Krokos's writing is simple yet effective, delivering powerful lines that can resonate with readers of all ages.
Proper review to come. Need to figure out how to form my thoughts into coherent sentences. I received an ARC of Uprooted at NYCC14 in exchange for an honest review.
+ Naomi Novik's world building+ Not focused on romance+ Strong friendship between Agnieszka and Kasia- There is an attempt rape scene- Romance is a bit awkward, can be seen as Stockholm Syndrome- Mild sex scene
