To start off, I love this series. I love forward to reading about these characters every year with Michael's wonderful release schedule. [b:Age of War 18052169 Age of War (The Legends of the First Empire, #3) Michael J. We get to jump in right after the events of the last book, fast forward a bit for some character progression and realistic time gap, then dive headfirst into the two events that will be resolved through the second arc. While I really liked this book, it definitely feels unresolved at the end with the cliffhanger ending. As someone who is going to read this whole series, it doesn't bother me too much, especially since I know the next book is not far off. Can't wait for [b:Age of Death 30613608 Age of Death (The Legends of the First Empire, #5) Michael J. This book took a little while to get me going, but on the last page, I was really excited to read the sequel. While not as good as the Darker Shade of Magic series, this was a fun read with very interesting characters.
The prose is beautiful, but I feel like the writer was trying to keep me from immersing myself into this world.
I've really got to stop reading LitRPG books. I know a lot of people love this genre, but it's not for me.
I had a few free months of Kindle Unlimited and a recommendation for this book, so I thought I'd try.
Every time I start reading a page of this book I wish I was reading something else. The run on sentences, repetition, and lack of punctuation leave me caring little as to what happens in the rest of the book. I am afraid I will have to shelf this book until the time comes that I want to punish myself.
This book thoroughly plots the development of the American war time President by starting with Thomas Jefferson's restraint and finishing up with our current Iraq/Afghanistan war. I love how many personal details are included on the inner workings of the administrations before, during, and after the decisions they made. Great for anyone interested in going beyond the top level history you learned in high school.
Backman is so good at taking a mundane setting, adding relatable characters, and pacing his narrative in such a way to drive his beautifully created world right into your heart. I love the progression and internal struggle of the characters from Beartown. This book is a definite must-read.
Best of the series so far. I can't wait for [b:Age of Legends 22819354 Age of Legends (The Legends of the First Empire #4) Michael J. Artemis is a good second novel by [a:Andy Weir 6540057 Andy Weir https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1382592903p2/6540057.jpg]. I love the characters he comes up with. Some parts felt too planned out unlike [b:The Martian 26779335 The Martian Andy Weir https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1445791565s/26779335.jpg 21825181] where each chapter feels like a reaction to the last. Exciting action, funny character interactions, and a lot of well thought out sci-fi world building.
Brilliant latest chapter in The Stormlight Archive. This series continues to be my favorite fantasy series.[b:Oathbringer 34002132 Oathbringer (The Stormlight Archive, #3) Brandon Sanderson https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1507307833s/34002132.jpg 23840254] builds on this massive world to make it even bigger. These characters are so deep and alive on the page. Their struggles have great purpose and consequence that follows them throughout the series.I can't wait for [b:Stormlight Book 4 17250966 Untitled (The Stormlight Archive, #4) Brandon Sanderson https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png 23840265].
This reads like an encyclopedia in a bad way. There isn't much interesting content in it. I won't be reading the other two shorts from Pottermore.
I feel like this is more of a discussion on how the author idealizes future society than a character-driven story. I'd have listened to the TED talk, but I can't recommend picking up this book.
More like 2.5 stars. The story lacked to surprise as I really bored in reading it. There was a lot of dialogue that served only to fill up pages.I would suggest anyone interested in reading a book of this genre, go check out [b:Steelheart 17182126 Steelheart (The Reckoners, #1) Brandon Sanderson https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1357576738s/17182126.jpg 21366540] by [a:Brandon Sanderson 38550 Brandon Sanderson https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1394044556p2/38550.jpg].
More 3.5 than 4. Very predictable story but entertaining. Pacing was hit or miss. I'll probably check out book 2 to see if the author has progressed.
This book is such a great followup to The Blade Itself. Before They Are Hanged builds so much on the characters in the first one, expanding their depth while broadening the world. These books are way more character-focused than world-building fantasy and I would read about their adventures all day long.
I usually take longer breaks in between books in a series, but I don't think I can keep from starting
Last Argument of Kings as soon as possible.
I had a hard time connecting with the main character, which made her training very hard to get through. Interesting idea for a series just not for me.
This book was good, but too hard to get through due to lack of punctuation and structure. Paragraphs are long run-on sentences with commas to break up talking between characters and narration.
While the book was good at covering how technology will make huge changes in certain industries in the near future, it didn't tell me a lot that I didn't already know. This may be due to the book being written a few years ago or that I'm thorough in keeping up to date on technology news.
If you aren't familiar with where major industries will see technological leaps in the coming future, check this book out.
Not sure if something's lost in translation, but I definitely did not enjoy the writing in this book. The story was okay, but very predictable. Very simplistic plot and overall a book I just wanted to finish and forget. I don't think I'll be trying another Wuxia novel for a long time.
Inspirational. Really makes you examine life, the precious time you have, and the precious people you are blessed to share it with.
I don't know if I'm just losing interest in the Young Adult genre, but I could not wait for this book to end. I'm starting to equate Mare with Katness where I spend the whole book hoping she gets killed off. I will not be picking up any more in this series.
This book was okay. I learned a lot about the characters, but didn't feel like there was enough conflict to make their journey interesting.
The best book I've read this year. It builds so nicely on what [b:The Way of Kings 7235533 The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1) Brandon Sanderson https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1388184640s/7235533.jpg 8134945] started. The Stormlight Archive has surpassed [b:A Game of Thrones 13496 A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) George R.R. Martin https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1436732693s/13496.jpg 1466917] now as my favorite fantasy series. Thank you [a:Brandon Sanderson 38550 Brandon Sanderson https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1394044556p2/38550.jpg] for this gem.
I enjoyed his prose and the inner conflict of Thomas Covenant. His struggle with himself, his purpose, and reality was all very intriguing.
The drop from 4 to 3 stars was the central immoral event that Thomas commits. It stayed with me throughout the rest of the book, sickening me of his character.
