While decent enough, I was generally disappointed in The Ghost Map. The story is certainly compelling and Dr. John Snow's pursuit of the early science of geoinformatics in pursuit of defeating cholera is a great story. But Johnson fails to wrap up the tale in a satisfying way, letting the final third of the book drag on indefinitely.

Wonderful book and a deep but quick read. Really a must read for anyone with an interest in games and game design.

I ended up stopping about 75% of the way through since the pacing was very slow.

While I was prepared for the degree to which this book was an indictment of our public education system, I was unprepared for the degree to which it's an indictment of pretty much our whole society, including education, national government, mass media, etc...

I have to admit that I'm really still digesting the implications of the book and will probably need to re-read shortly.

This was a generally well researched and written book. I didn't agree with the author in many of his conclusions but the path that he took to reach them was clear. And despite his prominent position as a Republican Senator, he avoids proscribing solutions based on political grounds.
