A pleasant read and a timely reminder of how we should not allow ourselves to be constrained by starting points in life. I liked the take on vocations, in particular the idea of it being a ‘field where we yearn to excel, to break out of the pack'. I thought the book was well-balanced and pragmatic in stressing the value of pursuing individual passions while acknowledging the need to find the intersection between those passions and the world of commerce. Overall an inspiring book that leaves you questioning your personal definition of success.
Very enjoyable and inspiring read. :) Favourite line from the book:
“Sometimes it's really important to move with all deliberate speed. If there is something out there that you want to do to make the world a better place, don't focus on the obstacles. Don't ask for permission. Just dive in. Don't let the naysayers get you down”
Pleasant read, nice introduction to the japanese concept of ikigai, allowing you to better appreciate the Japanese conviction to the pursuit of perfection.
An inspiring memoir urging readers to pursue their calling. Really liked one quote in particular - ‘If you're following your calling, the fatigue will be easier to bear, the disappointments will be fuel, the highs will be like nothing you've ever felt.'
