I had such high hopes after the first book and this simply did not hit the same. I felt Kiva devolved as a character and the story was extremely repetitive with mini side quests with the other arching plot not taking place until the last 80% ish. I still loved following our character (aka Jaron) but this just did not slap. Truly, I could see the plot twist this time from a mile away.
I hate to be one of those people that are like you are missing the point but I feel many of the horrible reviews on this book went in with the expectations that were not apt. The first sentence for gods sake says that he like hurting women?? and y'all expected him to be likable and enjoy listening to his story?
This story is incredibly unique as it is an inner monologue of an absolute abysmal man who hurts women for the sake of seeing their pain, a drunk, and overall a shit person. You see him fall in love with hurting people and with a young lady who becomes the victim of his obsession. It is uneasy and will reminder you r/incels and that is exactly what I feel the author set out to do. You get to see this man indirectly go crazy and one women turn his similar tactics on him. He is unreliable and absolutely disgusting. Every moment of this book made me feel some emotions (mostly bad), that is a job well done.
genuinely do not understand the hate surrounding this book. y'all preach copy and paste but reading the same college romance series with men who are all unhinged and have kinky sex? like let's not be hypocritical.
I loved this. I loved the quirkiness of our FMC, it's very millennial and as gen z, I found in surprisingly endearing. Levi is PERFECTION, his undying fucking need for bee was uh amazing. I loved the science setting and I will undoubtedly be picking up the other books in this series, praying for copy and paste.
Also the third act conflict was like so good. It wrapped this book up absolutely perfectly, thank you Ms. Hazelwood.
An incredibly unique novella, that takes on a lot and seemingly didn't fulfill each aspect. This novella creates an incredibly interesting atmosphere and culture divide between our main character and this world she has never been to. Whilst a novella, the time to develop the plot and important aspects related to plot felt lacking. I loved the talked on culture differences and growth but not everything and a bag of chips.

I just couldn't keep reading, I give up! This premise could have been fantastic. The introduction (aka 25%) mark was good, I might even say great! We have a priestess who is attempt to ascend and she is given ten opportunity through a mission with one of the realms in this universe. On the mission, she is accompanied by the mysterious, masked man called the 99th commander. WE DONT EVEN GET HIS REAL NAME (as far as I read).
My huge huge huge issue with this book was the world building was incredibly lacking. I loved the aspect of unique creatures and food we got but everything else was practically left up to the imagination. The character development had much to improve on. The relationships between the characters (friendship and romantic) felt incredibly forced and the depth we had of each character was surface level.
fan-fucking-tastic
I am Abby Jimenez stan. Daniel is my official favorite book boyfriend. Alexis's growth made this story so incredible.
My heart is so happy after reading this. A simple story of a small town boy and city. But a complex story of abuse, familial expectations, hard decisions, and so much love. Please read it.
I sat down turned on this audiobook and finished it without moving. So incredibly good. With the length of the book I am so incredibly shocked at the impact felt through murderbot.
Simply put we are following murderbot, a sort of robot with human features who has gain control, that follows researchers and protects them. Once gaining control, murderbot has gained some anxiety and the unquenchable need to watch trashy tv shows. We follow murderbot and their team through deceptions, actions, and heartwarming motive. I loved this and will absolutely continue this series.
Hmmm how do I feel? how do I feel? I hate when books are so good like 5 star feeling and then it takes a turn for the worst and now I'm confused. The turn for the worst happened the last 30% with a significant amount of plot development that should have been spaced out and “I love you” that came out of left field.
I adored the setting and deep plot and political development within this novel. The relationship was so cute for the first 70%. Just when I thought the enemies were slightly becoming lovers, I love you's are being thrown around. I don't know why we had to have full blown love before the plot twist. It felt rushed.
Such an amazing concept. Girl raised to be a killing machine and infiltrate an enemy kingdom through marriage, her new husband shows her a kingdom that wasn't what she was expecting. I am surprised to be saying this but this could have been a little longer or dare I say simply paced better? I don't know if I'll continue this series but I'm really sad because I had extremely high hopes. Please tell me if I should continue!!
Who am I? I've read 2 nonfiction books this month? This is fun. 10/10 if you are not a nonfiction reader audiobooks are so much fun way to try em out.
I once again don't think I'm going to rate this book, rating nonfiction feels weird to me because like it's information? But I digress.
This was an incredibly interesting depiction of how gender and sex is woven into our every day language. I loved learning about the linguist aspects of language and how evolution has taken place over many many decades.
The narrator is the author and her love for this topic metaphorically flies off the pages.
Is it weird I don't have much to say about this book? Good absolutely but didn't absolutely knock my socks off. This I felt was my first big girl fantasy read in length and plot complexity, and I'm left slightly disappointed? confused? I think mostly because of the end of the book, I was hoping for this great gigantic cliff hanger that made me want to immediately jump into the next book and this did not do that. I feel like I missed something?? I felt like this wrapped up everything but the standing of the government hierarchy?
I loved the romance and SJM truly does have a fantastic writing style. The plot was incredibly intricate and I felt not a stone was left unturned. I loved our huge group of characters and I think partially that is why I'll pick up the next book I just don't think I'm incredibly excited to?
I am so sad about this. The authors writing and story telling is fantastic. I loved the words on the pages but everything about the romance felt lack luster which given this is a romance made this fall extremely flat. I can't even say that anything was wrong per say but just I didn't believe the love.
This a sweet story of grief and learning to love again. We follow our FMC who's dad just died and has to go back home. The eclectic family who own a funeral home and some of them see ghost, our FMC being one of them. As she comes home in the midst of funeral planning, her editor comes to her in a slightly blurry and definitely not alive. With the goal of helping him pass on to the afterlife, they have adventures within this small town and find themselves digging into their desires.
Give it a try! It just didn't work perfectly in my noggin.
No rating for this but I don't feel right rating the life of someone else's.
A heartbreaking story of Jeannette's childhood as an actress and the trauma she endured and how she overcame numerous hardships in her life. I would recommend this to almost everyone but especially those who watched Nickelodeon as this sheds light on the behind the scenes activities that deserve to be recognized. The audiobook was fantastic, highly recommend!
This had the makings of everything that could have been a delish smutty time and fell so incredibly flat.
Basic premise is girl who just found her boyfriend cheating from a small religious town is finding freedom and exploration in a new job opportunity on an island far far away. Job mix up ensues and a drunk night with lots of reveals to a mystery man and now said mystery man is her boss and she's his person assistant. Great? Yes! Love oh so love.
Everything else was lack luster to say the least. The smut was good mwah but not enough to make up for the lack of depth behind these characters and plot. The plot ensues in tension (which was unbelievable for me) and working as a personal assistant until gasp the last chapter she finds that there is rape allegations for this man who has a track record for fucking his employees and ditching them, end story. Like why? I genuinely don't understand how this is a series that will last several books, I might listen to them just to see HOW this is drawn out.
I am not a plot connoisseur, if the character development or just character personalities are interesting enough I can still 100% love a book. The FMC is simply based around the fact that she is from a small town, virgin (not anymore because she fucked her serial employee fucker boss), and just called off her engagement. I so wish she had more depth that I could connect with her and understand why she is doing this shit.
Our MMC is a dick and once again I LOVE a mean MMC and even an severe enemies to lovers from time to time. We get the set up for oh I have to be mean to you outside of this room but nice to you here which love. But the nicest thing this man did was replace a vest for her? He did the bare minimum and for being an ass hat outside of their confided relationship was simply not enough.
Plus the tension was simply lacking. With secretive relationships, I love the sneaking around and stolen kisses but this was fucking and nothing else. I am tired of typing but my thoughts cease to stop.
SO FUCKING GOOD RTC WHENEVER BRAIN STOPS SPINNING
Okay I'm back and ready to talk. This was fucking amazing. Let's get the easy stuff out of the way. The author is so incredibly talented when crafting a world and not wasting a moment of your time. Truthfully, from the first page I was enthralled and not once did I feel like the words on the pages weren't absolutely necessary.
In a world where witches are outlawed, Rune finds herself saving all those she can from persecution while a deadly witch hunter is always on her trail. I don't even want to give you more because oh my god all the turns and the road you take is just too good to spoil. Rune is accompanied by these friends you fall in love with and god is my heart broken there. With her disguise as an aristocrat shallow girl, we get glimpses of designer clothes and elegant balls while watching our girl scheme to charming the pants off of anyone for information on her next mission.
GIDEON fucking Gideon. I shed tears for this man. This witch hunter is fuel by hate and set on the mission to kill the Crimson Moth. This man has my heart yall. The softness to him is something we only got a glimpse of and I cannot wait to watch their relationship bloom.
I felt so much for this book. I have read over 200 books now since my reading revival and truly not one book has made me feel so many emotions. The last 100 pages was a whirlwind of disgust, tears, and happiness. I seriously cannot wait to for the next book. I'm not religious but I am PRAYING for the release date to be pushed up. How can y'all be waiting years for books??
dun dun dun not my favorite but SO much potential. I am hoping and praying now that the author has a publishing deal there will some significant editing and overlook in the plot department.
This book was simply not revolutionary but I don't read YA so it was still sooo fun for me. The basis being girl who is has no powers (which is outlawed) is forced within these deadly trials against the powerful. While these trials are going on, she is forced to live within the palace of the kingdom leading to a delicious love triangle between the future king and his future enforcer and they are BRRROTHHEERRSSS. The romance was the highlight of this story and when we added Kitt in there hehehe. My love.
Plenty of negatives. The writing style fell flat for me but this is debut novel so I give grace. Typos and formatting issues a plenty. Minute world building especially within the politics and reasons behind stuff it was so confusing and just rushed??
So so so cute. I loved this book, I think this is my first alien romance?? Like full full alien romance? and it was so cute.
The audiobook was spectacular, let me say that. I love the sweet but oh so sexy relationship between our main characters. This story takes on a trip of a human lady being abducted and thrown onto this planet that is completely foreign. With intergalactic laws in place, she has to get married to one of these beings of her choice and stay on the planet for a year. This was funny and sweet and showed characters with so much development. I couldn't say anything negative about this other than not a five stars but a fun time am I right?
Sadness is filling my veins after reading this for two reasons. I didn't love this book as much as I thought I would.
You can tell the love the author put into this book from the research to the beautiful writing and the depth of the character development. If my review was just that, five stars zero doubt.
BUT it's not. The writing was so SLOW for me. I was reading this on my kindle and ending up buying the audio book other wise. I did love our characters and that's why I stuck around.
The second thing I am very sad about. I had surgery yesterday and all I wanted to do after surgery was listen to this audiobook and play animal crossing so that is what I did! My drugged brain did not follow the plot twist at all which heavily affected my ability to love this book.
Also I knew that no good son and a bitch!! I knew it I knew it. I had bad vibes from the start.
I'm not the biggest thriller girly but this was good! Spectacular? No but good!
I wasn't on the end of my seat but was incredibly intrigued on where the story was going. The ending wasn't shocking and unfortunately very basic and dare I say predictable? Which for a person who isn't good at guessing plot twists is very sad.
I enjoyed the characters and the journey we went on so like not the worst thing I ever read at all but eh. I'm really on a roll with my reviews today haha!
Okay listen I finished this book on Friday and didn't write a review and now I don't want to so here's the basics.
Sapphic romance with heavy revenge plot, academic setting, dark romance (gory aspects), found family, and a spectacular sexual awaking.
Giana's proses are beautiful and the writing of this book is spectacular like everything she has ever put out (that I've read). I loved the character development and slow aching love that was built between these characters. The third act conflict was genuinely understandable and I loved the resolution and epilogue.
Tada! Four stars, that's my review!
