gosh, maybe even better than the namesake? possibly because I really love short stories (although most of these are not readable in one sitting). every single story was beautiful and sad and layered and (as an Asian-American) relatable. I was truly sad when it ended.
A good YA read. I liked that the male character Park was Asian-American – refreshing and nuanced (not stereotypical or flat). Eleanor had such a hard life. I really felt bad for her, and I admired her strength, even if she didn't feel like she had any. Ending was a little too pat, though. The last “three words” thing did feel cliche to me.
Just as good as the first! As a (very middle-class) Chinese-American, I loved that I could simultaneously relate to and be shocked by the lives of the über-wealthy Asians out there. Perfect summer read. I wish there was a third to bring to the beach with me next week.
Beautiful and heartbreaking. Every character was multi-layered and complex, and the story was intense in so many areas: relationships, ethnicity, gender roles, parent-child, siblings, etc.
