The Mirror picks up where the first book, Inheritance, left off with more hauntings at Lost Bride Manor and even more family dinners, parties and pizza.

Most of this book felt like a cozy slog along the Maine coast—enjoyable but I kept thinking every other page, "Oh my goodness can we just get back to planning an exorcism already?"

Sonya inexplicably put Hester Dobbs's very clear-and-present danger on the back burner. I really wanted her to face this haunting head on quicker, since this ghost would love to end Sonya's entire Poole family line if she could. Halfway through the book, Sonya finally visited Gretta Poole for some answers but ended up with more questions. Then, those questions got put on the back burner too.

The second half of the book picked up nicely with more mirror mysteries and ghost stories. I was surprised by my emotional reaction to Sonya getting her first big account after starting her independent branding company. She's a strong, sweet character and I'm rooting for her and Cleo both.

Even though this book was a little slower pace than I'd like, I'm looking forward to a fun and spooky conclusion in The Seven Rings.
