Unfortunately, I didn't learn much new information from this book. Having grown up on the internet and being what might be called "terminally online" have given me a front row seat to the fallout of Gamergate and the growth of the "manosphere" for pretty much my entire adult life. However, for others who aren't as familiar with these online cesspits, I could see how it might be eye-opening in the current cultural climate. The last couple of chapters gave me hope, though, that there are ways to combat the extreme misogyny that radicalizes men and boys.
I enjoyed reading this one, but it didn't hit for me quite like Mexican Gothic did. SMG did a great job with building suspense and setting the atmosphere, but the characters didn't grab me. I felt like we saw very little of the hybrids despite them being a major part of the setting, and it never felt like we got got to see Carlota truly processing or accepting her true nature. Overall, it was a fun read but not my favorite.
