Smashed through this in one sitting. Amazing.

DNF after a year of trying to get through it sporadically.

Early contender for book of the year here.

A really very good book set in my favourite period of British history.

These books are so infuriating. 2/3rds of this were 2.5* at best, the final 3rd was great.

So much goodness in here. Waiting For The End Of The World was perfect

Some bangers in this anthology. Blood Games, The Last Church, and After De'shea are all excellent.

Another absolute banger.

This was the sort of book that makes me wish I could give more than 5 stars. Absolutely brilliant, and a testament to the quality of the writing that I'm sympathising with the antagonist... some fun Easter eggs that call back to Joy's earlier novels, too.

I loved this book, but fuck me it was dark.

Pathos (/ˈpeɪθɒs/, US: /ˈpeɪθoʊs/; pl. pathea or pathê; Ancient Greek: πάθος, romanized: páthos, lit. 'suffering or experience') appeals to the emotions and ideals of the audience and elicits feelings that already reside in them.[1] Pathos is a term used most often in rhetoric (in which it is considered one of the three modes of persuasion, alongside ethos and logos), as well as in literature, film and other narrative art.

It's done.

I've read a lot of books in my 41 years. The Book of the Fallen is a masterpiece, an absolutely towering work. I will be amazed if I ever read anything again that I love as much as I have loved these books.

Book one was good, book two very good. This was near flawless. I hope book four continues in the same fashion.

Gorfang is a legend

Chris Wraight is my favourite 40k author, and unsurprisingly I thought this was brilliant, too.

A fitting end to the Nathaniel Garro saga.

Should be essential reading, even if you're already aware of the concepts around Rational Investing/are a Boglehead...

I'm trying to give less 5 stars this year, so 4* will be for something I really liked, and 5* for something truly exceptional.

5* for this lovecraftian tinged masterpiece. I didn't realise there was a Fehervari-verse in 40K (the Dark Coil, since you ask), but now I shall be reading all of them.

Not your standard 40K by a long shot.

Excellent, should be read by everyone. Only 4 stars for me as it's very US centric but if you're even vaguely aware of your nations financial institutions and mechanisms everything is simple enough to transpose to your relevant locale.

After two years of rinsing the majority of my wages on vintage guitars and gear I am suitably shamed and inspired to start putting money away more sensibly again

An absolute corker to finish the year.

Not really my kind of 40k novel, but I have committed to reading the DA stories and this is where they start. This was perfectly fine bolter porn, with bonus Ghaz, and if that's up your street you'll love this.

I had low expectations for this and was pleasantly surprised.

This was really a fantastic book.

Perfectly adequate bolter porn.

I've read these books before, but man, if there is a sci-fi series better than this I need to read it. I love everything about them.
