This book can be read as a standalone. There are other characters from what I assume are the other books in the series with their current life updates. Spear lays down the groundwork for a possible future romance for another couple. All and all, it's a holiday romance so there is plenty of mistletoe and cheer.

I really wanted to like this fake dating romance, but I just couldn't get into it. I listened to this book on audio and I don't think it was the narrator André Santana. They were engaging. I just don't think I connected with Joaquin or Felix. I listened to this book twice, because the first time I thought I just wasn't in a good place to receive a romance between step-brothers, but yeah I couldn't do it. I know above it says godson, but he lives with her mother and I listened twice and I'm pretty sure it was more in the role of stepson. Joaquin lives out of the closet and Felix lives down-low. For me it just could have been the too close in the family at a young age factor. You read it and tell me what you think.

The Hunt for Artemis is a clean sweet romance that concentrates on the friendship and foundation part of the journey. I truly enjoyed it. No worries if you haven't read any of the other books in the series as this can be read as a standalone. The author says they are taking a break from the series for now so this is the perfect time to read Hunt for Artemis.

Ares does a great job of creating layers to set up the next book. The ongoing changes and twists kept the story moving along. Love and Other Cages can be read as a standalone, but to get the full picture of the main characters I would recommend reading the first one before tackling this one.

I love the illustrations by Daymel J. Garcia. They are bright, colorful, and engaging. It reminds me of watercolors and the colors change enough to keep a young reader engaged. The text is simple and the message is clear. Garcia explains why a bully may behave the way they do and why Onion Boy should ignore the negative comments. This section is full and done beautifully.
