Antisocial Media: How Facebook Disconnects Us and Undermines Democracy

I never know exactly what to do after books like this one. Written after Trump's first election, I think the author must be terrified of how things evolved since then and worsened. This book was truly enlightening on the impact of Facebook on our democracies and the damages it has done and continues doing, but since then things took an even darker turn.

The author spoke about how individualized targeted ads demanded too much work to be realistic, even with Facebook offering the tools, now with AI I'd say we're going down an even more dangerous path as those systems would make absolutely possible tailored political content to sway any person the way we exactly expect to.

I don't know where we're heading, I'm reassured to see that some thinkers aren't blind to the plights of our world and the damages we're causing, but I must say that this book didn't help me get any more hopeful.

While we have rendered ourselves incapable of collectively thinking our way out of our problems we have enriched and empowered those who would deliver to us the intellectual equivalent of junk food.
