This book different from TJ Klune's other books. It's more bittersweet as an elder gay couple navigate the end of the world. A black hole is set to swallow the earth, but they must depart on one last road trip before the world ends, before they are ready to say goodbye.
This book is about our protagonists as much as it is about the people they meet along the way.
tl;Dr this book was good and hit me in the feels.
3.5 rounded up. I loved all the disability representation, but it felt like it was more to check a box than to drive the story forward. They set the stage so nicely, but then didn't use any of it in the story.
I would have loved to see how the FMCs chronic pain affected her life. Or how she mentioned early on how her nerves can get confused and interpret pain, requiring a reset during a steamy scene. I loved the representation of wheel chair users falling in love and being confident in their sexuality, but it felt kinda flat.
Also, I was not a fan of all the boundaries that were set and then immediately broken because they “couldn't help themselves”. Breaking boundaries gives me the ick.
