every teenage white girl who is obsessed with sofia coppola and dismisses the complexities of precious in favour for their white girl sadness slop: i love the bell jar ❤️

so racist! and i don't want to hear bs about how she was a product of her time, this was written at the peak of the civil rights movement, and anyway still SO BORING. i think she should've stuck with poetry.

esther greenwood is in my nightmare blunt rotation

unfortunately uninspiring and anti-climactic compared to its movie counterpart. i'm surprised by how starkly different the messages of both respective pieces are— but i can't hate it since it provided the foundations for one of my favourite movies ever!!

it definitely wasn't the worst book i have ever read, but it gets annoying when it's obvious the author is trying to self-aggrandize their writing by forcing the most verbose and superfluous metaphors. i had to read 20 different iterations of "i am a woman and my only purpose is to bleed" and i didn't even read past 30% of the book. i think an openly queer retelling of carmilla is a very promising concept, just wish it had been executed better
