it definitely wasn't the worst book i have ever read, but it gets annoying when it's obvious the author is trying to self-aggrandize their writing by forcing the most verbose and superfluous metaphors. i had to read 20 different iterations of "i am a woman and my only purpose is to bleed" and i didn't even read past 30% of the book. i think an openly queer retelling of carmilla is a very promising concept, just wish it had been executed better
