How to Stop Time

Wrote a review for

I really REALLY like this book.

Like in the midnight library I really like how messily human the main character is, makes it feel much more real. I feel like Matt Haig does a really good job in conveying Tom's feeling of being kind of trapped, never being able to truly live his life, making the resolution of him finally reclaiming his freedom towards the end feel so rewarding - especially the final chapter.

I give it a 4.5 and not a five because of a couple things at the end. I feel like the twist of Marion working with Hendrich kind of came out of nowhere, sure twists are meant to be shocking and maybe I'm missing something but it really did feel out of the blue. Despite this, I think the whole idea of her being manipulated by Hendrich works well, and suits his character. On top of that, we never hear anything about Agnes, she was close to Hendrich so I'd expect her to have some kind of reaction to him dying in the end but there's nothing.

That being said I thoroughly enjoyed this book and, like with the midnight library, I felt a sense of hopefulness upon finishing if. Would recommend :)

Pride and Prejudice

Good book

Yes, this is in fact a book where people walk (or sometimes get pulled by horses) to other people's houses and they just kinda talk. But it was fun idk. I feel like the first half was kinda slow but when certain reveals and events happen in the second half of the book it gets really enjoyable to read. The words in this book are big and sophisticated and make me feel smart :))

I wasn't a big fan of Mr Bingley as a character, I feel like he kinda has no spine. I mean if I was speaking to my literal soulmate and my friend was like "nah she's not the one, her family is kinda strange, also she doesn't like you like that" I'M IGNORING HIM. Or at the very least investigating on my own to find out more for myself. Dumbass.

Also, while I am a fan of Elizabeth and Darcy getting together in the end, I feel like Elizabeth fell for him a little too fast. Maybe that's just me though. He was kind of a dick, and the fact that someone told lies about you doesn't suddenly make you not a dick... Except here that's kinda what happened, it's almost like his entire attitude changed instantly. Anyway whatever who cares.

Honestly I think my favourite character was actually Mrs Bennet. Everything she does to get her children married is so stupid it's funny to read.

All in all I liked this book, was a fun read but man being illiterate takes it's toll, it took me over a month to read it.

The Bromance Book Club

Wrote a review for

This book was okay. I was gonna give it a 2 but the words "So is this the bromance book club?" Was said so it gets an additional half star.

I was extremely annoyed at the start of the book because Thea had no real flaws and everyone was just laying into Gavin, which fair, but whatever. My annoyance diminished as the book went on as it is kind of an addictive read as I did end up rooting for them to get back together. But honestly there was a period of time where I honestly would've been happy if the two characters just went their separate ways.

I feel as though the fact that Thea was not the perfect wife and she did have shortcomings which contributed in their marriage troubles was A) too late and B) not really fleshed out. It seems like the only reason this revelation was made was just to allow for a grand gesture. Honestly I am happy that they did address Thea's problems because I had given up hope that that was going to happen and I probably would have given the book a 2 or lower if they hadn't.

I think the guys were all super tropey, maybe what the author was going for but not really my thing. Also "The Russian" being there for comedic relief HAD to be the result of some personal vendetta or something lmao.

I did overall enjoy this book and will likely be reading the others at some point but the start of it was just too frustrating.
