i really don't know what to say, because i just loved this. colin and bishop<333 i love them so much. and the plot was so fantastic, the haunting and the possession, the mystical aspects to it were so well written, i loved the world building. their relationship, both with each other, and themselves was just wow. what a great book

if i could give negative stars to a book, this would be the one to get them... uhm. it somehow incorporates every single bad trope a book could ever have. incest, pedophilia, homophobia, fetishization of both gays and japanese people, misogyny, accusing gay men of being “predatory” and then having your character be exactly that... i have no words. it's just plain bad. and even if we do ignore ALL that, there's still so much wrong in this book, the lack of vocabulary, no character depth, really none of these characters had a personality. the repetitiveness, sometimes i felt like i was reading the same scene over and over again with only a couple of details changed... and that's just naming a few off the top of my head

it was cute, and the queer mythological beings always gets to me, but i feel like jason june still has a lot to improve on his writing. it felt very repetitive at times, especially at the beginning where stuff was being explained and then mentioned over and over again like we just forgot about it. the plot is there, the magic is there, but the only thing that didn't do it for me fully was the execution and the writing. but tbh i totally understand how that can change depending on the person, and at the end of the day i enjoyed this and it was a nice read

there is a lot to be said about this story, and i feel like whatever i wrote here would never be enough to expose what i thoroughly thought of it. a simple review written by me on goodreads would never convey what i most desired to write about this, so i'll leave it at that, and hope someday i'm able to put it into words.

this was absolutely brilliant! it got me captivated from the beginning up until the end, the plot is amazing and the writing ??? oh my god fantastic. really, i loved this with all my heart. the character development, their relationships, the murder case and its suspects, everything is connected and it gives you a sense of connection with the investigation, because it isn't just a random detective investigating, it's a teenage girl who lives and is part of this town and population, she knows this people, she has been living this reality and it's just amazing

it took me so long to finish this because it meant i was finishing this whole saga, and i really didn't want to. but this was very good, it made me very happy and very sad. adam and ronan's relationship development, oh my god, no one understands me. also would love to refer that the ronan ftm trans pipeline is VERY REAL, especially because of orphan girl, and i'm in this until i die.
henry was such an amazing addition to the group, and i'm glad he joined them. unfortunately, i'm still very sad about noah, and i wish he could've come back, but i understand how that wouldn't make sense.
the ending scene and gansey's death felt a bit underwhelming after everything, but, again, i understand that that's the point
